It took me a great deal of effort to get my cat Nian Gao home. I’m from Tianshui, Gansu Province. I browsed on Xianyu and found a local cattery. After adding the owner’s WeChat, I took a fancy to my cat and paid a deposit of 500 yuan. I learned that the cattery was in Xi’an, which wasn’t too far away (it’s about an hour and forty minutes by high-speed rail and around five hours by car). I asked if it could be delivered for free. I waited for a ride-hailing car, and the owner was supposed to send me the license plate number of the car in a video. After giving me the driver’s phone number, I would pay the balance and he would send the cat. The owner showed me screenshots of the fare for the ride-hailing car he booked several times.
However, he then told me that my cat wasn’t eligible for free delivery. He showed me screenshots and said that I was asking about another cat. He also demanded that I pay the balance first. At that moment, I thought to myself, could he be a scammer? Trying to cheat me out of the balance and also the ride-hailing fare! I said, “Then send it by coach and let me pay upon arrival.” He said he wouldn’t do that! And he asked me to pick it up myself, and that he was going to cancel the car booking! I was even more convinced that he was a scammer. I immediately asked my husband to take the high-speed rail to Xi’an to pick up the cat (I had asked for the address in advance), and then he took the cat and came back by coach.

It went quite smoothly to get the cat. But my husband couldn’t come back from Xi’an. Because except for one coach at 11 a.m., all the other coaches from Xi’an to Tianshui were out of service. He was on duty, and he had to go to the prison the next day. There was nothing I could do. I asked him to take the coach and go to Baoji first, which was nearby. I drove for more than three hours to pick them up! However, the moment I saw the cat, all my unhappiness was forgotten. My heart melted at the sight of it! Every day, I just cuddle with it! But every time I carry it to the bed, it takes the chance when I’m not paying attention and runs away!
Giddyap!
The morning of the second day after he got home, he had bloody stools, a whole lump of it. Then I took him to the pet hospital and had him checked for feline distemper, internal parasites, and enteritis. The doctor said he had some anemic enteritis. I didn’t change his cat food. After getting two injections and taking some medicine, he got better. Since we just got married and the new house was airing out the smell and no one was living there, and there was no heating either. We were living with my mom. My mom couldn’t accept having a cat.
I was afraid that the cat would freeze to death, so I bravely took it with me. After living there for a week, I couldn’t stand my mom’s constant nagging, so I simply took the cat back to the new house and turned on the heating. Right after we got back, he vomited again! I bought probiotics. Now he can eat, drink, and sleep well! I feel that Nian Gao is just like my child, although I don’t have a real child yet, haha. I care more about him than myself! I’m a light sleeper. I wake up to check if he’s still in the cat litter every one or two hours when I’m sleeping. My phone album is full of his pictures! It’s only been twelve days since Nian Gao became part of my family, and I hope we can be together for a long time.
