Advice for Novice Cat Owners: My Experience with a Ragdoll

I’m a novice cat owner and I have a Ragdoll. I got it from a cattery, and it’s not as exaggerated as what is said online. It doesn’t have a fragile stomach or get sick easily; none of those problems occurred.

However, if you are also a novice, I suggest you borrow a cat from a friend’s house and keep it for a week or two. Sometimes, I really can’t stand it. After raising a cat, I realized how nice it was to be alone. Especially in March, the cat shed hair crazily. To what extent? There would be a thick layer of cat hair on the mat it had lain on. Don’t believe in those so – called bed vacuum cleaners; they are useless. They can’t suck up the hair at all.

A few – yuan lint – roller is much more useful. Plus, since cats like to get on the bed, you have to clean frequently. At first, you might enjoy it, thinking that the cat is “supervising” you to clean. But later, when you’re exhausted from work every day, you won’t think so anymore. (I’m soft – hearted and not willing to lock the cat in a cage.)

If you are renting with roommates and there’s no balcony, the placement of the litter box can really stump you. I was once woken up from my dream by the stench of its poop. Cat urine also stinks. I don’t know if my cat is a bit dull or just perfunctory, but it used to bury its poop very carelessly. And cats sleep a lot but in short intervals. They often like to scratch the litter in the middle of the night, making a loud rustling sound.

I’ve digressed a bit. The main point is to remind you that if you are a novice, never impulsively buy a cat. Now, when you search for cat – related things online, almost everyone only describes the good aspects. People won’t mention the unpleasant things. So, it’s still recommended that you borrow a cat first to experience it. If you are an experienced cat owner, just ignore what I said.

Speaking of which, I used to really like British Shorthairs, those chubby blue cats. They have a noble – lady feel, very elegant and luxurious. But later, I got tired of the look… When I had the ability to buy a cat, I met a Ragdoll. It was really beautiful. But now, I feel like I’m getting a bit tired of it too… Generally, people are more tolerant of beautiful things. Ragdolls, being beautiful cats, also get a lot of tolerance. My cat never gets angry (usually it’s me who gets angry). At most, it’s just too lazy to pay attention to people sometimes. It seems that Ragdolls are the kind of cats that are submissive. But generally, most pet cats are like this.

Oh, here’s a practical piece of advice. When raising a cat for the first time, don’t spend a large amount of money on buying a cat. Never do that. This is a lesson learned from my own experience. So, I suggest you get an inexpensive cat. If you can get an inexpensive blue cat, raise it; if you can get an inexpensive Ragdoll, raise it.
