Caring for a Blue Cat: Essential Tips for Cat Owners

I’m a senior cat lover with an orange cat at home and have been raising cats for 5 years.

Seeing the question from the poster, I personally think it’s about what special points need to be noted when raising a blue cat.

Data analysis shows that currently, the most commonly raised cats by cat owners are blue cats, American Shorthairs, and Ragdolls. Blue cats are highly favored for their cute appearance and excellent personalities. While enjoying the companionship and healing that cats bring us, we also need to take good care of them.

Regarding the care of blue cats, the following points need attention:

Diet

If it’s a blue cat less than three months old, pay special attention to its diet. The cat food should be wet food (that is, soaked soft with water), and if possible, consider feeding some goat milk. Later, I will also summarize in detail the specific situation of feeding young cats.

For cats with poor digestive systems, such as young cats with soft or loose stools, you can buy some probiotics in pet hospitals or online to regulate their fragile digestive tracts.

Normally, you can buy some cat cans or cat snacks to supplement nutrition. Especially, cat snacks can be used as rewards for training cats.

If the cat has a poor constitution, you can also buy nutritional paste or make some nutritious cat food by yourself. Never buy pet food from unregulated manufacturers.

Never feed cats fruits or foods containing salt or sugar. In addition, don’t feed cats cow’s milk because cats are lactose – intolerant.

Drinking

In terms of drinking water, basically, I change a bowl of water in the morning and another bowl after work in the afternoon. Remember to add boiled water. Tap water and mineral water are not suitable. Because tap water carries a lot of germs, and mineral water can easily cause cats to get kidney stones.

Don’t give cats sweet – flavored drinks.

If the cat doesn’t like to drink water, you can add some nutritional paste or foods that the cat likes to the water (adding water to cat cans is also okay).

Be sure to let the blue cat drink more water to avoid getting kidney stones. These are all things that need to be paid great attention to. Sometimes blue cats are a bit lazy, so the owner needs to spend more time and effort.

Living Conditions

If you are diligent, you can regularly clean and disinfect your home. This is also a way to prevent cats from being infected. You should know that even if your cat never goes out, it may still catch some diseases because people’s clothes, shoes, and doormats can bring germs from the outside to the cat.

When a young cat first arrives home, it can be kept in a cage for a few days or a week. After the young cat gets used to the litter box, it can be let free. This can cultivate the habit of the blue cat using the litter box to go to the toilet from an early age.

Cats can be bathed once every 1 – 3 months. It’s best to use special cat shampoo for bathing.

When the cat sheds a lot of hair, you can buy special grooming tools to regularly comb the blue cat and remove some dead hair.

Pay attention to keeping young cats warm. Winter is a season that can easily cause diseases in young cats.

Others

When the cat is about two months old, it can be taken to the pet hospital to get the feline distemper – hepatitis – parvovirus (FCP) vaccine and rabies vaccine. This can effectively strengthen the young cat’s constitution and avoid unnecessary illnesses. If possible, vaccinate the cat once a year.

Regularly do internal and external deworming for the cat. This can effectively prevent and treat the cat from being infected by parasites. Later, I will also test and summarize some relatively good brands.

Companionship

Most blue cats are very clingy, so they need a lot of companionship. Playing with them and giving them hugs are both necessary!
