Characteristics and Behavioral Traits of British Shorthair Blue Cats

Based on my short – term pet – sitting experience, my friend’s experience, and information from the pet hospital:

The prominent personality traits of British Shorthair blue cats are gluttony and timidity, and the recessive trait is that they are not very affectionate towards people, which leads to several aspects of their characteristics.

Gluttony Branch 1: Obesity. Except for individual differences, blue cats are generally not picky eaters and have a large appetite. The prominent weight of adult blue cats is usually over 10 jin, which is definitely closely related to their gluttony.

Gluttony Branch 2: Laziness. With a large body weight, they naturally don’t like to move. Blue cats spend most of the day lying down or eating. Because they are too lazy to move, many times blue cats won’t escape the owner’s caresses and hugs immediately. Laziness also creates the illusion that blue cats are affectionate towards people. Cat owners who raise blue cats should notice that blue cats usually want to break free quickly after being held for a short while. When blue cats are kittens and lighter in weight, they are generally more lively.

Gluttony Branch 3: Close to the feeder. Because they are gluttonous, it’s easy to get closer to blue cats by feeding them. Not only blue cats, but British Shorthairs in general are not very affectionate cats. However, due to their gluttony, it’s easy to establish a feeding relationship with food. More food needs also lead to more food – begging behaviors. If it weren’t for this characteristic, blue cats generally wouldn’t take the initiative to get close to people.

Timidity Branch 1: Longer time to build a relationship. Like other cats, raising a blue cat from a kitten will make the relationship closer. But it’s generally more difficult and takes longer to build a relationship with an adopted adult blue cat.

Timidity Branch 2: Easily frightened by strangers and strange things. When the owner goes out, takes the cat out, or when moving, blue cats usually shrink in one place and don’t move. They will show aggressive behaviors when being actively approached.

Conclusion: They are suitable for home – raising, but the interactivity is relatively less.
