Guide to Buying Cats: Understanding Bloodlines and Choosing Reputable Catteries

When you say ordinary pets, you may be referring to cats without pedigrees. The price of such cats depends on the conscience of the seller. After all, they know best about the cats, and they set the prices. Most of them are cross – bred. Very, very few are breeding cats sold at the sterilization price but not actually sterilized as per the agreement, and the CFA certificate states they are sterilized cats. So, their offspring are not recognized. They do have bloodlines in reality but are not recognized as having pedigrees nominally. Of course, such sellers are already frauds from the start of breeding.

Single – pedigree cats are bred from a CFA – registered cat and a cross – bred cat (99.0% are bred with cross – bred cats) or a pure – blooded cat without a certificate (most people who take a chance will probably be deceived). However, almost all sellers of this type of cat will tell you that the other parent is also pure – blooded, just without a certificate.

Double – pedigree cats from regular catteries. The price of pet – grade ones is 6000 – 10000 yuan. If you buy from other channels, the price can range from a few hundred to tens of thousands of yuan. As long as you find a regular cattery, the bloodline must be pure. If it’s not a regular cattery, there’s a high chance that they will deceive you with the first two types of cats. There are many guides on Zhihu about how to find a regular cattery, and you can check them out.

All the above are the preparations I made when buying a cat. It’s better to first figure out what kind of cat you want and what price you can accept. If you have enough money, support pure – blooded cats. If you don’t have enough money, find a more conscientious backyard breeder, or adopt, or wait until you have enough money to buy… Generally speaking, I prefer to buy cats from regular catteries. And the fact that the procedures are complicated doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a regular cattery. Now, many places that require signing an agreement when buying a cat are actually backyard breeders posing as catteries. Sometimes people are strange. The more complicated the procedures are, the more you think they are reliable. There are indeed many good catteries that sign contracts, and the prices are also very high. So, keep your eyes peeled.

In addition, never believe in the so – called awkward stage. The breeding cats in regular catteries have good genes. After all, cat buyers value appearance more. Only cats with good appearance – related genes can ensure the appearance of the kittens they give birth to. So, cats from regular catteries are good – looking from childhood to adulthood. There is no such thing as an awkward stage with a pointy face and sunken cheeks.

Maybe there are one or two kittens that don’t inherit the good genes. The cattery owners usually inform in advance. If there are defects, the price is lower than others but not as low as that of backyard – bred cats or cats from cat dealers. Don’t go with the mentality of getting a bargain, or you will be deceived. Also, cats from regular catteries are not handed over to new owners until they are at least four months old and have received all the vaccines.
