Novice Buying British Shorthair Cats: Understanding Breed Grades

Many people’s first – bought cats are pet cats (pet cats ≠ pet – grade). The reason is that without understanding the breed, they are not willing to spend money. In fact, pet cats are the happiest when they meet good owners. They can enjoy good food and a comfortable life, and after being sterilized at the appropriate age, they can live out the rest of their lives in peace, without the hardships of breeding, the torments of being in heat, and the running around and being watched in competitions. Therefore, selling pet – grade cats of a breed after sterilization is the most suitable choice for new pet – keeping families.

Let’s first introduce:

Pet cats: Generally, they have no certificates and their bloodlines are untraceable. They have the most basic characteristics of the breed, but are basically unqualified in all aspects within the breed. They are cheap, but the market is chaotic, full of too many unscrupulous cat breeders and hybrid cats. The living environment is poor, and the health of the cats is worrying. There are too few conscientious breeders. Taking advantage of the characteristics and psychology of buyers who want to save money, don’t understand, and are eager to buy cats, more than 80% of buyers will be deceived.

Pet – grade: All pet – grade cats are registered cats bred within the breed. However, they have poor appearances or are not excellent enough in all aspects and are not suitable for breeding. Breeders often select pet – grade kittens that are not suitable for breeding from a litter and sell them after sterilization. This is the best choice for pet – keeping families. The price is definitely higher than that of pet cats, because in terms of everything from genes to daily life, they are far superior to pet cats.

Breeding – grade: These cats are better than pet – grade cats in all aspects. In terms of appearance, they can generally meet the official breed requirements and have few defects. They can ensure the stable inheritance of genes to their offspring. Breeding – grade cats are generally bred from excellent bloodline combinations. The responsibility of breeding – grade cats is to help breeders improve the quality of the cats in their own catteries, so the price is naturally relatively high.

Show – grade: As the name implies, these are cats for competitions and are the best in the breed. They not only meet the official breed regulations but also are the crystallization of the breeders’ efforts. Show – grade cats don’t appear in every litter, and just because two show – grade parents don’t necessarily mean there will be show – grade offspring. Don’t believe it? Try asking Jamaica to cultivate another Usain Bolt and the United States to produce another team of Michael Phelps. Show – grade cats must be impeccable in terms of genetic inheritance and appearance, and even their diet, body posture, and daily life need to be strictly taken care of. They are like top – level athletes being trained. What is invested is not only money but also efforts, sweat, and a little bit of luck. So don’t be shocked by the price. Sometimes, money + efforts + luck = priceless.
