Black and white curly hair of elderly Border Collie

My Border Collie is a boy with black and white curly hair. I have raised him for 11 years.

First of all, thank you for your love. I cannot reply to every comment due to limited energy, but I will read every comment. If there is any update, please add it at the end of the article.

When answering this question, I found that I haven’t taken many photos of Wang in the past few years. My mobile phone is full of videos and old photos of taking him out to play. He has long become a part of my family, and everything seems so plain and daily.

Cute photos of one month

1. Hair loss. From the first day of raising him, there was dog hair everywhere in the house. Although I comb my hair every day, my hair is thick, and it sheds once a year, and it sheds for a year. The floor is dark, the dog hair is very obvious, and it also attracts dust; even if it is wiped clean, it will be covered with hair again in less than half a day. Not to mention clothes and pants, use a roller to stick them from head to toe before going out. As for finding dog hair in prepared meals, clean clothes, even underwear, and bed sheets, we are no longer surprised. We pick out the hair and eat, wear, and sleep.

2. Bathing is a huge project. It is no exaggeration to say that I can lose two pounds by bathing the dog at home. Wang enjoys it very much and will turn over automatically. The process is as follows: go downstairs to pee and poop, comb the hair to avoid tangles (I once spent two hours to untie it), cut nails, trim claws, bathe, squeeze anal glands, dry, blow dry (fur flies everywhere), drip ear oil, clean up the bathroom, clean up myself, and prepare meals for the ancestors. Half a day passed, and the other half was so tiring that I just wanted to lie down, so I rarely bathed him myself later, and usually took him directly to the pet store. But every time after a bath, he likes to act cute with us, knowing that he has become fragrant after a bath, and we will let him stay on the sofa or bed for a while.

3. A lot of exercise, and rapid recovery of energy. To be honest, if you raise a Border Collie in the city center, you basically don’t have the opportunity to let him run freely. My family walks him once in the morning, just to pee and take a walk; after 10 o’clock in the evening, we walk him for an hour. If there is no one around, we remove the leash and let him run for a while. Sometimes I take him to the suburbs to have fun on weekends. He can run all the time without rest. It’s no problem to have crazy fun for three hours; on the way home, he takes a nap in the car, and when he gets home, he is a brave man again, full of blood. Now that I am old, I don’t like to play ball or frisbee. Every time I take him out to play for two hours, he gets tired and goes to sleep when I get home. Remember not to overestimate yourself. All ideas before raising a dog are idealistic. For example, you decide to walk the dog for two hours every day, but this walk has been going on for more than ten years. After get off work, it is inevitable that you will be tired and don’t like to move. In the future, when you fall in love, get married and have children, will the dog become a burden to you? In addition, I feel that Border Collies are not suitable for the elderly, children, and people with bad cervical spine, back, arms, legs and feet. It is very hard.

When he met his kind in the suburbs, he would chase after them even though his hair was bitten off, wanting to play with them

. 4. He is clingy, jealous, and cannot stand being alone. I brought my dog home. My parents didn’t like him at first (he was really nice), so he usually preferred to stay by my side when I was at home; if the whole family was there, he would sometimes find a place where he could see everyone and lie down. I think this is his shepherding nature. My mother said this is called keeping an eye on all directions and listening to all directions. If no one pays attention to him, he will sigh and glance at you; if it doesn’t work, he will howl like a wolf, which is so miserable.

Emmm…

I once used a camera to record his day before going out. He was the only dog at home. He had been guarding the door since we went out, either drinking water or sleeping, waiting for us to come home. I felt very distressed after watching it. He can distinguish the sound of locking a car. Every time he hears the sound of locking his own car, he will run to the door excitedly and wait for us to ring the bell or open the door to welcome us home. He

usually likes us to run and jump with him, and the neighbors downstairs even knocked on the door for this. He likes to sleep in my bedroom, and he snores and talks in his sleep, and he keeps the same schedule as me. But now he is used to sleeping in the living room, and occasionally he scratches the door in the middle of the night or breathes loudly at the crack of the door: Let me in, I want to sleep in your room. But he sleeps in my parents’ bedroom, and he always likes to wander around in the middle of the night, waking up my parents.

One day I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and came back to turn off the lights and prepare to go back to sleep. After a few minutes, I suddenly heard breathing sounds. I turned on the lights and found that this guy sneaked into the house and hid while I was in the bathroom, breathing softly, afraid that I would find him.

I brought a cat home some time ago. Wang was very happy. He finally had a playmate. He would go to play with him when he had nothing to do, and endured the cat’s mischief like an old father; but at the same time, he was very jealous, and the frequency of asking for hugs and touches increased significantly. He ate well and was not picky about food, and he would sneak a glance at you for praise, steal cat food and cat litter (you read that right), snatch cat snacks, and didn’t let us touch cat. Occasionally, he would pat people’s heads when cats were not paying attention, and he knew to call my mother to clean up cat poop. Unfortunately, I later found out that I was allergic to cat hair, so I had no choice but to return the cat. I was sad for a long time, and Wang was lost for several days, but finally he could enjoy his favor alone again.

5. Smart, this is one of the reasons why I raised a Border Collie, but sometimes it is also a headache. He has a strong learning ability but average obedience. He is very good at observing words and expressions, has a sense of propriety (cowardice), has many small thoughts, has his own ideas and judgment, can distinguish the status of people, and knows how to draw inferences from one example. All the cages and fences at home can’t hold him. He learned to unlock and escape in two days. Later, we simply let him roam free. Fortunately, he is very well-behaved and won’t cause trouble. He knows when you are really angry, when you are pretending to be angry, and when you will not scold or beat him even if you are angry, so he is getting bolder and bolder, often madly testing the edge of breaking the law, but never doing anything out of line. Whether you cooperate with him in daily interactions depends on your position in his heart, or whether it is profitable. Although we have to use both soft and hard tactics to deal with him, it is generally worry-free. We usually have a good tacit understanding, and it is quite interesting to see him thinking.

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, he stayed at home with me to build models

. As for destroying the house, mine is not so bad. When I first brought him home, he bit three pairs of my mother’s shoes, a hair dryer plug, and a dryer plug. After my mother gave him a good beating, he never did any damage again. Later, he occasionally stole apples, but he took a bite of each one. Another time, he gnawed on two pots of flowers, so my mother took a pot of cactus and put it in front of him for him to gnaw on. He turned his ears away and refused to open his mouth no matter what. Hahaha. He likes to listen to me play the piano, and he used to like to gnaw on the piano legs. After I gave him a good beating, he never gnawed on them again, but there were clear little teeth marks on the piano legs. You need to keep a ladylike smile here:)
