The Market Dynamics of Cats in China and the Importance of Responsible Pet – ownership

Isn’t it obvious? Since pet – raising became popular in China, the mainstream market (excluding the high – end segment) is mostly composed of well – off families raising pets. Where there is a market, there is supply. American Shorthairs and blue British Shorthairs entered the domestic pet market under the banner of being imported from abroad. People who want to raise cats are told that these two breeds are imported from abroad, and their coat colors are at two extremes: one is solid – colored and the other is black – and – white striped, with a distinct contrast. They are also easy to raise.

For various reasons, the supply has been infinitely enlarged. The market is good, and each seller starts to lower prices accordingly. And it’s always the mid – to – low – end market that dominates. Although there are some high – end cats, the quantity of pet – raising families is more significant than the quality (not referring to the quality of the cats, but the quality of pet – raising families). For a simple example, if the profit from selling a Maine Coon is 5000 yuan, but due to its high price, maybe only one can be sold in a month. However, for the relatively cheaper American Shorthairs and blue British Shorthairs, the profit may only be 1000 – 2000 yuan each, but six or seven or even more can be sold in a month.

Finally, I want to say that all cats are of equal value. Those who want to become cat owners should communicate with their families in advance. Never abandon the cat after buying it. In a small sense, it’s a waste of money. In a large sense, it’s irresponsible to yourself, your family, and the cat!!!

Also, I think adoption should be supported, but people shouldn’t be forced to adopt instead of buying. Only when people subjectively accept a cat can they be more responsible for it in the future.

One more thing, I personally dislike and even resent breeding with Scottish Folds. Scottish Folds basically have more or less problems. If we let them breed the next generation, more Scottish Folds will bring more misfortunes. Once my American Shorthair gave birth to a litter, and I kept two kittens in the end. Due to my carelessness, both of them got feline panleukopenia.

But finally, they both recovered. The male cat is now sterilized and weighs 13 pounds, and the female cat now weighs 7 pounds. When I took them to the hospital for treatment, I casually asked the nurse in the hospital if there were cases where people didn’t continue the treatment because of the cost when their cats had feline panleukopenia. He told me that there were quite a few. Now, looking back, I really feel heart – broken. It’s not just that I spent more than 30,000 yuan on my three cute pets, but also that I blame myself for my carelessness, which made both them and me very sad. Fortunately, they both recovered, and it seems that because of that feline panleukopenia, these two little guys are even closer to me. It can be said to be a blessing in disguise.
