Bichon Frises have high demands on their living environment and often require human companionship. People without ample time are not suitable for raising Bichon Frises. The following are the details to note in the daily care of Bichon Frises:
I. Identifying Purebred Bichon Frises
Hair: The coat of a purebred Bichon Frise should be extremely soft and elastic. Especially after bathing and brushing, the coat stands on the body, creating an overall powder – puff effect.
The underfur of a good purebred Bichon Frise is soft and thick, while the outer coat is somewhat curly and coarse. When the owner touches it, the combination of these two different types of hair gives a feeling of softness and firmness, similar to the elasticity of velvet.
Gait: The running movements of a purebred Bichon Frise should be graceful, accurate, and effortless. When observed from the side, the stretching movements of the front and hind legs are coordinated. The front – body stretches easily, the hind legs drive powerfully, and the back line remains stable.

Color: The most recommended color for a mature purebred Bichon Frise is white. For Bichon Frise puppies, the criteria can be relaxed appropriately. For example, some puppies may have light – yellow, cream – colored, or apricot – colored shadows around the ears or on the body, which is not a major concern, as some Bichon Frise puppies’ colors will turn white as they grow up. However, if it is an adult Bichon Frise and the proportion of other colors on its body exceeds 10% of the total coat, it is unacceptable and cannot be regarded as a high – quality purebred Bichon Frise.
II. Daily Care of Bichon Frises
Diet Management:
(1) Everything must be fresh. Leftovers from the previous meal should be promptly discarded, and the tableware should be washed clean to maintain cleanliness. However, I recommend feeding dog food preferably.
(2) Since the mouth of a Bichon Frise gets dirty easily, when providing water, try not to use a basin. Instead, choose a special water – container that can be hung on the cage.
(3) For Bichon Frises aged 1 – 2 months, due to their small size, it is best to feed them some special lamb milk powder for puppies first. You can give them Chongda Puppy and Kitten Milk Replacer Powder, and they can drink it once a day.
(4) Additionally, you can cook some duck liver, pork liver, or lean – meat porridge for the Bichon Frise. Note that when cooking porridge, do not add seasonings such as salt and oil, otherwise, the Bichon Frise is likely to have diarrhea. Do not over – feed liver – type food. Feed it occasionally for one meal. Eating too much can easily lead to a low – calcium and high – phosphorus situation, affecting calcium absorption.
(5) When the Bichon Frise is 3 months old, you can consider feeding some puppy food. At the beginning, do not feed the dog directly. Put some warm water or puppy and kitten milk replacer powder, soak and stir it to form a paste that is easy to lick. As the puppy gradually adapts to solid food, gradually reduce the amount of lamb milk powder.
(6) When the Bichon Frise grows to 3 – 7 months old, appropriately feed it some trace – element tablets, calcium tablets, granules for adjusting the respiratory system, etc. You can buy some calcium powder, such as Chongda Instant Calcium – Vitamin Complex, which can simultaneously supplement the pet’s calcium, trace elements, and vitamins, helping the Bichon Frise increase in body length and height, enhance its physique, and make its hair grow thicker and more beautiful.
Living Environment: Bichon Frises have high requirements for their living environment and often need to be accompanied. The environment where the dog plays is also very important. Try to avoid dirty and dusty places. Choose small cobblestone – paved paths and tiled runways for them. This will keep the area much cleaner.
Exercise: Bichon Frises are naturally energetic and require a large amount of exercise. It is best to exercise them twice a day, 30 minutes each time. You can take walks, play games, and let them play to their heart’s content.
