I’m on vacation, feeling bored and having a stomachache, so I decided to figure out approximately how much it costs to raise my dog. (I never thought I’d do such a boring thing – going through everything in such detail. Haha)
The food and medicine are all from flagship stores or Tmall Supermarket.
The products are sourced from Taobao, Pinduoduo, and JD.com, mostly purchased at discounted prices. I’ve always been quite good at online shopping, and I think the prices won’t vary much for future purchases. So, I’m calculating based on the promotional prices.
The following products are only for price reference and not for recommendation. (Because I’ve had some bad experiences. For example, the pee – pads from Pinduoduo were a few yuan cheaper than those from Taobao, but the quality was quite different. I also had to buy the Elizabethan collar several times to find a suitable one. And I haven’t found a fun and durable dog toy yet.)

I bought an adult dog and have only been raising it for a few months.
So, I don’t know exactly how long many of these items will last.
Dog Food: 96 yuan
I bought it during a promotion and stocked up. I’m not sure how long one bag will last. It’s nearly 24 yuan per kg. Assuming 130g per day × 30 days = 3900g ≈ 4000g (4kg), 24 × 4kg = 96 yuan.
Dog Snacks: 32 yuan
I just realized that buying 4 packs (I tend to feed more when there are more packs, so I won’t stock up next time) is not as cost – effective as buying 1 pack. So, let’s say it’s 32 yuan per pack. I don’t know how many pieces are in a pack, but let’s assume one pack lasts a month.
Fruits, Yogurt Lids: Given to it for free
Accommodation – related: 38 yuan
Dog Fence: 6 yuan
108 × 2 (for my place and my parents’ place) (A friend gave me one). Not a consumable. If it’s used for 3 years? 108 × 2 ÷ 3 years ÷ 12 months = 6 yuan per month.
Dog Bed: 9 yuan
Needs to be replaced and cleaned. I have two sets, one for my place and one for my parents’ place, which are rotated.
I recently bought the strap – type one because it’s easy to clean and fix. I’ll probably buy this type from now on. Let’s say it’s 20 yuan each.
For my place, 2 per year × 2 rotations (replace every half – year) = 4 per year.
For my parents’ place, 2 per year × 0.5 rotations (it stays there less time, replaced every two years) = 1 per year.
5 × 20 yuan each = 100 yuan ÷ 12 months ≈ 9 yuan.
Food Bowl and Water Bottle: 3 yuan
I don’t know how long one can last. Assuming it’s replaced once a year?
The water dispenser at my place is 19 yuan + the food bowl is 12 yuan = 31 yuan.
The food bowl at my parents’ place is 12 × 0.5 rotations (replaced every two years) = 6 yuan.
In total, 37 yuan ÷ 12 months ≈ 3 yuan.
Pee – pads: 18 yuan
I bought 200 pieces. I don’t know how long they’ll last. Assuming 3 pieces per day, they’ll last for two months. 36.2 ÷ 2 ≈ 18 yuan per month.
Dog Toilet: 2 yuan
With pee – pads, it doesn’t need to be replaced often.
I replace it once a year at my place and once every two years at my parents’ place. That’s 1.5 per year.
16.5 × 1.5 ≈ 25, ÷ 12 months ≈ 2 yuan.
Play – related: 5 yuan
Leash: 3 yuan
I don’t know how long it can last. Assuming it’s replaced once a year, and I can sew it if it breaks.
36 yuan ÷ 12 months = 3 yuan.
Wet Wipes: 2 yuan
I use them to wipe its paws when we come back from outside and to clean its eyes every day, two wipes a day.
Now the price has increased to over 26 yuan. Assuming I go for group – buying, it’s 24 yuan.
800 wipes ÷ 2 wipes per day = 400 days. Okay, that’s over a year. Let’s assume one year (even if it’s not used up, it’ll probably dry out).
24 ÷ 12 months = 2 yuan.
Bathing – related: 17 yuan
I bathe and groom it myself, including cutting its hair and nails.
I don’t know how long these items will last.
Shampoo: Once a week. Assuming one bottle lasts half a year (I diluted it once and found some ingredients were indeed not recommended). 32 × 2 = 64 yuan.
Absorbent Towel: 12 yuan at my place, 12 × 0.5 (replaced every two years) = 18 yuan at my parents’ place.
Blow – dryer: 278 ÷ 3 (hoping it can be used for 3 years) ≈ 93 yuan.
Hair Clipper: 56 ÷ 3 (also used for 3 years?) ≈ 19 yuan.
64 + 18 + 93 + 19 = 194 ÷ 12 months ≈ 17 yuan.
The dilution bottle can be replaced with a mineral water bottle, so it’s negligible.
When I bought the blow – dryer, scissors, nail – clippers, etc. were given as gifts.
Medicines: 95 yuan
Probiotics: 5 yuan
I forget how many there are. Assuming it’s used for one year, 54 ÷ 12 ≈ 5 yuan.
Deworming Medicine: 90 yuan
One pill each per month, 132 + 49 = 181 ÷ 2 ≈ 90 yuan.
Elizabethan Collar: 7 yuan
It wears out easily, and the frequency of going out will affect its lifespan. Assuming 3 per year. 27 × 3 = 81 ÷ 12 months ≈ 7 yuan.
Aviation Box: 4 yuan
The handle broke the first time I used it, and the boss sent a new one. But I don’t know how many times this one will last. Let’s assume it’s used for one year. ÷ 12 ≈ 4 yuan.
Dog Toys: 4 yuan
I haven’t found a durable and satisfactory toy yet. Currently, it likes the little duck the most. It costs 1 yuan each. Assuming one per week, that’s 4 yuan.
In summary, dog food 96 yuan, dog snacks 32 yuan, accommodation – related 38 yuan, play – related 5 yuan, bathing – related 17 yuan, medicines 95 yuan, Elizabethan collar 7 yuan, toys 4 yuan, aviation box 4 yuan = 288 yuan.

Long – term boarding, and medical treatment are all expensive.
Oh, I also need to pay extra when I take it out and bring it back. This cost is not included.
