Let me tell you the story of how I met my lovely cat.
I had always been talking about wanting to raise a cat, and I was always nagging my boyfriend about it. He was really annoyed.
In November 2016, the winter in Beijing was extremely cold. I was lying at home when my boyfriend went downstairs to take out the trash. Suddenly, he called me and said, “Come downstairs quickly. I saw Chacha.” (Chacha was a American Shorthair cat raised by our neighbor downstairs.) My boyfriend thought the American Shorthair downstairs had run out of the house, so he asked me to go downstairs to check. While I was going downstairs, the neighbor on the third floor also came out. And he said, “This isn’t Chacha!” Well, it was a false alarm. Then where did this extremely handsome and chubby cat come from?
At this time, the neighbor said that it seemed to be a stray cat in the community. It had appeared in the vicinity in the past week. A neighbor sister who also raised a cat in the building had fed it with cat food several times. But it was said that its temperament was extremely sensitive and it was very vigilant. People couldn’t get within one meter of it.

Presumably, it wouldn’t appear in front of people unless it was really starving. So the neighbor took some cat food for it. It only ate when it confirmed that we were all standing far away, and it gobbled it up. After it was full, my boyfriend said, “You’ve always wanted to raise a cat. How about we take it home?” Of course, I agreed wholeheartedly! So the neighbor also contributed a cat cage… But! He! Was! So! Difficult! To! Catch!
As I said before, it wouldn’t let people get within one meter of it. My boyfriend and the neighbor tried all kinds of methods. Grabbing it directly didn’t work, and luring it with delicious food didn’t work either. As soon as this little guy saw the cat food in the cage, he turned around and ran away! My boyfriend tried to approach it quietly, but its fleeing figure was like a black lightning bolt, and it disappeared into the night.
This was the first time we met it. It ran away, and looking at its extremely nervous and vigilant appearance, my boyfriend and I basically gave up the idea of being able to catch it.
About a week passed. It was almost mid – November at this time, and my boyfriend was on a business trip and not at home. One day, I came home at around 9 pm. When I was about to reach the entrance of the unit, suddenly a small black shadow emerged from under the car parked at the entrance! I took a look and thought, isn’t this the little black chubby guy who ran away after eating the food a few days ago? I walked towards the building, and it followed me, all the way, almost rubbing against my trouser legs. When I was about to take the elevator, it actually directly grabbed my coat with its claws.
I thought it might be starving again, but at that time, I only had a bag of oranges in my hand. I peeled one for it without much hope. Sure enough, it sniffed it and didn’t eat. I said, “Then you wait here. I’ll go upstairs and get you some delicious food.” I rushed home at a sprint speed… Found some dried meat, and then rushed downstairs at a sprint speed… Because I was afraid that it would be gone when I left. And guess what!!! As soon as I got out of the elevator downstairs, it was squatting around the corner! I quickly fed it, and this time it was very strange that it wasn’t afraid of people (later I found out that it was only not afraid of me…). It started eating right from my hand. It quickly finished eating, and I was about to go upstairs. I walked into the elevator, and it also wanted to come in, meowing at me all the time. At that moment, I don’t know what I was thinking. I thought this little black chubby guy was so afraid of people. What if I couldn’t handle it when I took it home… Anyway, I was just stupid. I went upstairs by myself.
