I chose to adopt a cat because it was inexpensive and good – looking.
At that time, I decided to keep a pet. People said that a 30 – year – old man should have a living thing around. I originally wanted to get a dog, but dogs have relatively poor self – care ability and need to be walked. I’m really lazy, so I chose a cat instead.
I went to a pet store. A small British Shorthair kitten cost me 3000 yuan, and it hadn’t even had its vaccines or deworming done. Whether they were adult cats or kittens, they all looked at me with disdain, which really annoyed me.
Then I went to the nearby pet hospital. They were giving away stray cats for free. I just needed to buy some cat food and cat litter. The moment I held her out, I immediately decided to take her. Money didn’t matter anymore.

She used to be a stray cat and knew how tough life could be. After arriving at the pet hospital, she ate until she was stuffed, which led to a rapid increase in her weight. Her belly was full of fat, but her face was thin. She had already had her vaccines and been neutered, so it was quite worry – free. As long as there was cat food, I didn’t have to worry about her running away because she couldn’t bear to part with the cat food.
Now I leave her at my mom’s place to raise. It’s really hassle – free. I just put the cat food and cat litter in place, and she takes care of her eating and daily needs on her own. On the first night she came back, she climbed onto my bed and lay down at my feet to sleep.
My mom was strongly against me keeping a cat at first. She said she would only keep one living thing. But later, when I went out and left the cat with my mom for a while, my mom instantly became a cat person. She sends me videos of her playing with the cat every day. She’s closer to the cat than to me.
Later, I brought the cat to my workplace. She’s very clingy. When I go out, she follows me. When I go to have a meal and leave her at the entrance of the mall, she lies on the grass. After I finish eating and call her, she comes out and goes home with me.
She’s very obedient. Every night, when I open the door and call out, “Let’s go play outside,” she’ll follow me happily and run out. Outside, she runs around wildly. If she hasn’t had enough fun, I can go home first, and when she’s done playing, she’ll come back on her own. She shakes the bell around her neck at the door, and I open the door for her to come in.
Her hunting instincts are still there. From time to time, she brings things home for me. Frogs, grasshoppers, dragonflies, geckos, she catches all kinds of things. Fortunately, she has a bell around her neck, so she hasn’t brought back a mouse to show off. Most of the time, she doesn’t kill them either. She just catches them and puts them at my feet, then meows. I have to immediately go over and stroke her head, encouraging her that she did a great job, and then secretly release the creatures when she’s not paying attention. She’ll look around for them, and if she can’t find them, she’ll forget about it after playing for a while.
She’s very clingy. She has to sleep on my bed at night. She’s so fat that when she climbs onto the bed in the middle of the night, she can wake me up by stepping on me. She lies at my feet. She wakes up earlier than me and will “wash” my face and hair when she gets up. Usually, if I stretch out a hand, she’ll hold it and lick it for a long time.
This is my first time raising a cat. I don’t know what the expensive cats are so good at, but my cat has already met all my expectations of a cat.
