Adopting the Stray Kittens: A Story of Love and Loss

Adopting the Stray Kittens: A Story of Love and Loss

Let me digress a bit. I picked up a pair of kitten brothers. Although the main characters aren’t exactly pure – bred Dragon Li cats, their mother was a Dragon Li cat, so they have some Dragon Li cat blood. Warning: There are a lot of pictures. Since this is my first time answering a question and I don’t know what to say, I’ll post more pictures!

I found them in a cardboard box downstairs of my company three years ago. Their eyes had just opened. I heard that their mother had died under the wheels a few days ago. There were originally five kittens in the litter. When I found them, only these two poor little ones were left.

This is how they looked when I first picked them up. They were still unweaned and covered in fleas. The black cat was named Maizi, and the Dragon – Li – like cat was named Dingchun. Just like that, I suddenly had cats. They seemed to be only about ten – plus days old when they came back. They were unweaned and couldn’t pee or poop on their own. Fortunately, I had some experience. I fed them goat milk every day and used a gloved hand to stimulate them to pee and poop. That’s how we got through the first month.

I was worried they might catch a cold or get sick, so I didn’t give them a bath until they were over two months old.

Forgive the poor – quality photos from my old phone. Since I rarely show pictures of my cats, these were all taken casually. The two cats have very different personalities. Maizi is very cute and docile, while Dingchun was naughty every day, rummaging through the trash can.

Maizi was really ugly when it was a kitten.

Later, unfortunately, Dingchun got lost and never came back. I checked the surveillance. It walked towards the balcony gracefully and then disappeared. Maybe it went out to be a “mythical beast” to find Kagura (a reference from an anime). T_T Or maybe it just disliked me too much.

Then there were only Maizi and me, depending on each other. I was heart – broken and swore that I must be good to Maizi!! So I immediately took Maizi to… get neutered.

After coming back, it had a sense of sadness about its lost testicles.

I’m sorry, Maizi.

Maizi might have inherited the excellent genes of the orange cat. It got fatter and fatter, and then reached its peak in terms of appearance. Fortunately, black is slimming.

Now Maizi waits for me at the door every day when I get off work. It asks me to stroke its head and then goes to find a place to play on its own. It’s quiet and well – behaved, like a cute child. And it’s getting fatter. The last time I weighed it, it was over thirteen pounds. Every morning, it waits for me to get up by the bedside or thinks about life while looking out of the window.

“Human servant, why haven’t you gotten up to clean the litter yet?”

I was afraid that it would get depressed if it continued like this, so last year, I found a playmate for it… a “coal – digging” cat (a reference to a Siamese cat’s appearance).

Please forgive my photography skills. Hahahaha

In conclusion, Dragon Li cats and stray cats are very easy to raise. They rarely get sick, are very obedient, and have a gentle personality, like an understanding friend. When you’re unhappy, it will let you pet it. When you’re happy, it will play with you. In this cold south, it makes you feel warm!
