In the early summer of the year before last, a kitten that my colleague had raised for a few days and didn’t want to keep anymore was about to be thrown away. I didn’t know how old it was at that time. When I brought it back, it was only about ten – odd centimeters long.
Just before that, in the early spring during an unexpected cold spell, there was a little orange cat in the corridor of the office courtyard. It was probably lost (and couldn’t find its mother). I saw it shivering there before getting off work. By the next morning when I came to work, it was gone.
I thought, I can’t just let this kitten be thrown out like that and freeze to death on a rainy night.
So, I rode a motorcycle alone, using a paper bag to bring back this tricolor rural cat.

Perhaps my colleague wasn’t well – prepared for raising a cat. For such a small kitten, it was tied up with a rope, and not tied around its front legs, but directly around its neck.
When I brought it back, it looked so pitiful, meowing constantly.
When I gave it a bath, there were a lot of lice on its body. When I put it in a basin, the lice crawled everywhere. Since it was a kitten with not much fur, when its fur was wet, it was almost just skin. Then I manually pinched the lice on its body one by one. Maybe this bath made it feel much more comfortable. Later, this little guy was very cooperative during baths. I could handle it single – handedly. I’d hold it down with my left hand, pour water and apply shampoo with my right hand, and then rinse it. It would stand obediently without moving around.
I didn’t teach it how to use the litter box. When I first brought it back, there was no litter box. It pooped on the floor. After I bought the litter box and carried it in, it walked around inside and then came out. From then on, it knew to use the litter box for the toilet.
=========This can be considered a manual dividing line. Now, let me answer the questioner’s questions=================
How did you obtain it?
Well, I can be said to have picked up this cat.
What preparations are needed?
Necessities for the cat, such as cat food, cat litter, and a litter box. Since I had cats at home in the countryside when I was a child, I don’t think cats are that delicate. I just bought cat food for my cat randomly online. It seems to like it very much. Now it weighs almost ten pounds and has been healthy so far.
Preparations for the cat owner, mainly for litter – box cleaning. Generally, with cat litter, there isn’t much smell in the room, and there isn’t much smell when cleaning either. But the smell of cat urine is quite strong. Also, be prepared to clean the house (actually, it’s not too bad, not too messy). Cat litter sometimes gets on the floor, and during molting seasons, there’s fur all over the sofa and the floor…
==That’s about it.
What changes has it brought to your life?
Not many changes. It’s just that when I’m bored, I have a little guy to play with. This kind of cat is actually quite easy to raise. So far, the most money I’ve spent was on its sterilization surgery, which cost over 800 yuan. Other expenses are just for daily cat food and such, which don’t cost much.
It likes to scratch things, like the sofa. Although there’s a scratching post for it, that’s just one more thing for it to scratch. There’s probably a way to teach it. When I just moved, it scratched the sofa. Every time it did that, I’d catch it and hit its paws, then carry it to the scratching post and let it scratch. At first, when I carried it there, it didn’t scratch. I even had to hold its paws and make it scratch. After several times, when I carried it there, it knew to scratch. Now it knows to use the scratching post to sharpen its claws. When someone is at home, it hasn’t been seen scratching the sofa. I’m just not sure if it will scratch the sofa when I’m out at work.
This is what it looks like now. Photos of it when it was a kitten are lost because I changed my phone.
It’s kind of ugly, but it’s okay once you get used to it.
In terms of balance ability, I admit defeat. The cloth it’s wearing above is to prevent it from licking its wound after the sterilization surgery.
It loves high places like the refrigerator. Hey, cat owner, remember to clean the top of the refrigerator when you do the cleaning.
I’m just sleeping on your lousy bed. What are you looking at?
It’s not like I don’t have my own bed. Although it’s almost too small for me now.
That’s all.
