People say that tabby cats are fierce. But setting aside their temperament, if you’re preparing to raise a cat now:
Prepare food according to the cat’s age (it’s recommended to choose small – packaged or trial – size products). Firstly, this helps save unnecessary waste. Secondly, it allows you to quickly figure out the cat’s food preferences. You don’t need to prepare too many toys. You can consider getting a cat scratching post. Of course, if you have a wooden table at home, wrapping sisal rope around the table legs is also a great tool for the cat to scratch its claws.
After all, regular cardboard cat scratching posts produce debris when used and are not easy to clean. Ensure that the water is clean and sufficient. Some people say that cats don’t like to drink water next to their food, but I haven’t verified this. However, I place the water bowl and food bowl separately to prevent the cat from not drinking enough water. I’ve prepared water bowls in two places.
Just buy a large cat litter box. A semi – enclosed one can prevent cat litter from being carried out. Buying a small one might seem cost – effective at first, but the cat will grow up… I use bentonite cat litter. I haven’t tried other types of cat litter yet, so I can’t comment. I also haven’t bought any so – called deodorants or fresheners.
I bought some brightly – colored small toy balls. They cost about 0.8 – 1.5 yuan each on Taobao. I stocked up on ten at a time. My cat is free – roaming at home. It can play wherever it likes without restrictions. When a ball is lost, I’ll give it a new one, or find the old one and clean it.
Ear cleaner. Regularly clean the cat’s ears (I bought imported ear drops at a pet clinic. They didn’t have domestic products. If you’re considering the price, you can look into it more. There are many different brands on Taobao).
Cages… I put two single – layer medium – sized cages together in my house (Don’t ask me why. I had no experience at the beginning, sigh). I only put the cat in the cage when it makes mistakes or needs to be isolated. It’s recommended to buy a two – layer or even a small three – layer cage. You can use it for isolation, during cleaning, or when opening the door and ventilating.
I don’t let my cat play with the cat teaser anymore. I’m afraid it might eat the feathers. Also, some cat teasers have bells at the front, which are noisy and not good for the cat.
When growing cat grass, don’t buy the so – called soil – free products like crystal mud or crystal balls. The things that expand when soaked in water might arouse the cat’s curiosity. If the cat bites and swallows them, it could be very troublesome.
As for the cat – petting glove, some cats like it while others prefer a comb. It varies from cat to cat.
For yourself, you’ll need a lint roller. I use the ones from IKEA. I have three at home, along with a lot of replacement refills. Roll it over yourself before going out.
A vacuum cleaner… I can’t live without it for cleaning the sheets, floors, and sofas.
I think the most important things are your love and patience. Regardless of the tabby cat’s character, all cats can be naughty. They may be disobedient, noisy, or wake you up early in the morning. You can scold or discipline a cat, but often it doesn’t work much. You need to go through a period of adjustment. After the adjustment period, many problems will be improved or even completely resolved. When my black – and – white cat came, it was only two months old. I scolded it loudly and put it in the cage.
After about a week, I realized it was because it had no cat food at 4 am and was hungry, so it had to cry. After that, I would refill its food bowl before going to bed at night. Now, my black – and – white cat has adapted to my daily routine. When it hears my alarm clock ring, it will wait at the door or lie on the bed watching me. If I get up, it will start stretching or meowing. But if I just turn off the alarm and don’t move, it will continue to lie there without getting up or making a sound.
