My Adorable and Mischievous Dragon Li Cat: A Source of Joy and Challenges

My Adorable and Mischievous Dragon Li Cat: A Source of Joy and Challenges

I adopted my Dragon Li cat from a kind – hearted girl who took in a pregnant stray cat mother. It was born on Valentine’s Day and was only three months old when I adopted it.

My Dragon Li cat has been extremely healthy since it was a kitten. Now that it’s almost one year old, there haven’t been any abnormal phenomena (except for once when it ate a ham sausage wrapper in the garbage bag and I thought it was blood when it vomited hairballs…). It has a really tough body, which is probably a common trait of native Chinese cats.

Besides the Dragon Li cat, there’s also a two – year – old British Shorthair with a gradient coat at home. It’s very finicky, not allowing itself to be touched or hugged, and it only eats cat food. If a whole tube of hair – ball – remover paste is licked by the Dragon Li cat even once, the British Shorthair won’t eat it anymore. In contrast, my little Dragon Li cat is super obedient. Since it was a kitten, it got used to having its nails trimmed. It can be touched and hugged casually and eats everything. When it was a kitten, its favorite foods were green beans and sweet potato skins. Now that it’s grown up, there’s a whole drawer full of various snacks. The British Shorthair doesn’t eat them, so they’re all for the Dragon Li cat.

The most important thing about the Dragon Li cat is that it’s smart and very understanding of human feelings. The British Shorthair at home is rather dull, hiding in a corner all day without moving and reacting slowly. But raising a Dragon Li cat is really like raising a puppy.

When it’s happy, it will follow you around. Wherever you go, it will go. It must follow to see what you’re doing, which makes you feel extremely happy. So it’s constantly running around all day. When I’m busy, it’s even busier than me. It’s like the little team – leader at home, always worried about things. Whenever there’s any movement, it will rush to the scene immediately. When my mother is angry and speaking loudly, even if it’s sleeping, it will immediately jump down, meowing at my mother as it runs, circling around my angry mother, biting her pajama pants to stop her from losing her temper loudly. After my mother calms down, it will sit with its paws tucked under its body on my mother’s lap, not moving. Then my mother will say that I’m not even as good as a cat…

Okay, I can’t praise it anymore. Let me talk about the troubles I’ve had…

Once, when I changed to scented cat litter when it was a kitten, it peed on my bed for a week. I was living in the school dormitory at that time and only realized it after coming back and sleeping for a day on the weekend. The whole bed looked like a world map. I spent the whole night scrubbing the mattress…

I’ve had a constant stream of minor and major injuries. Before the old ones heal, new ones appear. The Dragon Li cat is too lively and full of energy, and I also like to play with it. So, accidentally, I’ll get a new wound…

At night, it runs around the house, the two cats fight, and it scratches the bedroom door in the middle of the night…

It can go anywhere in the house, always staying in the highest places. I don’t even know how it gets up there. It knocks over the cat food, spills the water, insists on peeing next to the litter box, doesn’t bury its poop and pee after using the litter box, bites up anything related to fur if it’s not put away, breaks the flowerpots with cat grass and catnip, climbs onto the cabinet top and throws everything on the ground, competes with me for attention, and is a little sycophant following my mother around…

But I still love it super much ❤ my little treasure.

Native Chinese cats are really easy to raise and extremely sensible.

It makes me feel extremely happy and my life is fulfilling! Now, instead of mindlessly scrolling through my phone most of the time, I spend more time playing with it and chatting with my family.
