Perhaps it’s because of the expressions, coat colors, and personalities of Dragon Li cats. Of course, human interaction also plays a part, as every cat has its own individuality.
I’ve photographed two Dragon Li cats that left a deep impression on me. My initial perception was that they seemed a bit aloof. However, once you get close to them or if the cats are gentle and lively, you might not think they’re so aloof anymore. So those who think Dragon Li cats are aloof might just happen to see them in that moment and it doesn’t represent all Dragon Li cats.
I photographed a Dragon Li cat by the seaside. I thought it was really cool, like a sailor.

I myself seldom come across extremely aloof cats. Even if I do, I don’t consider that true aloofness. Aloofness is just our visual judgment and doesn’t mean that’s how the cats are in their daily lives. Many cats have an aloof posture, and personally, I think it’s actually a good thing for them. After all, for outdoor cats, their alertness is relatively high, which helps protect them from being disturbed by others.
The following cat has extremely clear eyes without a single impurity. When I first saw it beside me, it would actively rub against my trouser legs and stroll back and forth leisurely. Such affectionate behavior was really heartwarming. I didn’t sense any aloofness from it, and I didn’t even think about that issue. So interacting with cats can change our attitudes.
During the COVID-19 nucleic acid tests in Shanghai, I encountered a really cute Dragon Li cat.
Here is a set of cat pictures I took. It feels like I’ve entered a cat colony. These cats have various postures. I guess the last Dragon Li cat was deep in thought. From this angle, the black cat in the front gives an overbearing impression. I didn’t even dare to approach it as it seemed to warn “strangers, keep away”.
Compared with the Dragon Li cat standing gracefully and thinking, it does look a bit aloof, as if immersed in its own world. But later, after spending some time with these cats, I found that the Dragon Li cat was especially cute. I took the initiative to squat down and keep a friendly distance, meowed a couple of times, and that Dragon Li cat, as if triggered by a switch, came over. It seems to really like being close to humans. So the feeling of aloofness is only momentary. I’ve never seen a cat that remains aloof all the time.
This is a set of cat pictures I took. Each cat has its own personality.
Perhaps one day, the original poster will meet a cute and lively Dragon Li cat and then realize how interesting the cat world is. I think cats have even more expressions than I do, and just spending a while with them can make you feel relaxed.
