Doudou is a British shorthair kitten. When she came to our house, she was just 7 months old. (2)

Later,
a strange thing happened.
When she first came, Doudou was skinny, but she became fatter and fatter. She ate a lot every day, and her belly was getting bigger and bigger. I always thought that the little guy ate too much. One day, I just came back from a business trip in Guangzhou. I curled up on the sofa, and Doudou stayed next to me. I looked at her little belly, and a thought flashed through my mind. Could she be pregnant?! But thinking about it, it was impossible. Doudou has never gone out since she came to our house, and she is still a little cat. I still went to Baidu to search for the symptoms of cat pregnancy. The more I searched, the more I thought it was like this. I quickly took a photo of Doudou and sent it to the seller. The seller said at first that it was unlikely and he had never asked Doudou to mate, but from the photo, she did look like she was pregnant. She also kept asking us if we had a neighbor named Wang. After repeatedly confirming that there was no neighbor named Wang, I speculated that she might have accidentally gotten pregnant at the seller’s house. Because Doudou doesn’t meow, she didn’t notice when she was bullied by the big bad male cat.

I took Doudou to the veterinary hospital for an ultrasound, and it was confirmed that she was pregnant and was about to give birth! I saw several little lives moving in the image, and I felt it was magical at the time. The doctor said that there were many babies in her belly, and I couldn’t count how many there were, but there were at least 5, and they were developing well. After hearing this, I felt much more at ease. After returning home, I searched on Baidu about what I needed to prepare for cat birth, and bought: a large rattan nest, cotton pads, alcohol, iodine, cotton swabs, cotton, towels, etc. I was expecting and a little worried. After all, Doudou was still very young, and I had planned to sterilize her when she was one year old, so I was always anxious, but Big Fat Bear said that since such a thing had happened, it would be considered to make her cat life complete and experience the feeling of being a mother.

On March 4, a full week after the ultrasound. Doudou showed restless behavior, wandering around, and secreting fluid.
We thought she might be about to give birth, so we immediately prepared. Boil hot water, disinfect scissors and cotton thread, prepare towels, and then quietly observe her changes.
After the strange behavior appeared at 8 o’clock in the evening, we kept waiting non-stop, and my two good friends also kept waiting with me in the WeChat group. After midnight, I really couldn’t hold on any longer, so I slept for a while, and Big Fat Bear watched over me. At about 12:40, Big Fat Bear woke me up and said that Doudou had started giving birth to kittens. I quickly got up to help. Doudou had a small mouth, stuck out his tongue, and breathed like a puppy. Then I saw two little kitten legs exposed, but they didn’t come down for a long time. Later, I found that the kittens came out upside down, and the first one was difficult to give birth! Big Fat Bear put on disposable gloves, pulled the two little legs to help give birth together, and then got the first kitten out. After the kitten came out, Doudou didn’t seem to bite the umbilical cord, so we had to help again, wrapped the kitten with a towel, carefully tied the umbilical cord with cotton thread, cut it with scissors, and put it next to Doudou. After a while, the second kitten was born, and we did the same steps again. In this way, one by one, I cut the umbilical cords of five kittens in total. After the five kittens were born, it was already five in the morning. We waited for a while and found that Doudou had gone to feed the newborn kittens. At that time, we guessed that she had given birth.
After a sleepless night, I woke up after a short rest the next day and saw a row of kittens lying on their stomachs to drink milk. Suddenly, I felt the greatness of life. Even if they were small animals, the mother’s nature would make her take care of her children out of instinct. I once saw a sentence said by Matthew Hutson: Awesomeness is everything! Awe is the emotion you feel when you see something great. For this night, for such a life process, I really felt awe.
After giving birth, Doudou quickly lost weight and had anorexia. The first thing I did when I got home every day was to feed her the fish paste I cooked for her. She would stop eating after a while, and then I would take it out and put it back in. She seemed to forget that she had just eaten and eat a little more. I would repeat this process many times just to make her eat a little more. After having a baby, her temperament changed a lot, becoming more gentle and full of maternal love. Occasionally, she would come out to stay with us for a while, and when she heard the baby cry, she would run back, lick the kitten, and lie on her side to let the kitten drink milk. A small moment one night made me burst into tears. In the past, when I went to sleep in the bedroom, she would follow me and learned to push the door open. Every time, I had to carry her back to the living room and tell her not to come in. That night, we walked into the corridor between the living room and the two bedrooms together. She didn’t follow me anymore, but went to the direction of the second bedroom. I walked to the other bedroom and turned back to say Doudou, good night to her! She meowed at me, then walked forward firmly to her baby without looking back.
