The story of the prospective guide dog Ritar

No regrets.

I have a prospective guide dog named Rita.

This is how she looks with the training equipment, which was taken by the trainer.

Rita was born on February 1, 2018 at the Dalian Guide Dog Base. As a volunteer, I brought her back for foster care. When she is one year old, she will be returned to the base and taught by professional trainers the subjects that guide dogs must know.

I adopted her in early April of that year. At that time, she was less than 10 pounds and very small. The pictures are all on my old mobile phone. If many people see them, I will upload them.

This was taken when I took her for a walk in Labor Park.

Rita was naughty like other Labradors when she was young. She would chase the mop and bite it, and she would rush out when she went for a walk. My husband agreed to raise her (he was still my boyfriend at that time), but he thought Rita was noisy and once disliked her. I also quarreled with him several times for this. I think puppies are like children. You should educate them patiently. There will always be a way.

I trained her according to the methods taught by the base, and also figured out some methods on my own. When she was about six, seven or eight months old, Rita was very cute. When I mopped the floor, she could follow the command and stay still. When I went out to do something, she would stay at home most of the time. When I came in, she would hold a toy or my slippers in her mouth and wag her tail at me, twist her body, and ask for a touch. She was very cute.

I was busy with work on weekends, so other foster families would come to pick up Rita and visit them. I would pick her up again on Monday, sometimes on Sunday night. The following picture was taken by T Tower’s foster father, and his photography skills are great! The following is a group photo of the two babies, all taken by T’s father. Sometimes Rita would go to T Tower’s house when she needed to go back to her hometown to do something. T’s father’s colleagues in the company especially liked Rita, and everyone was very friendly to Rita.

In addition to visiting T Tower’s house, there was also a baby named Ruyi, who was Rita’s biological sister. Ruyi’s mother and father were both very good people, and they treated Rita more carefully than Ruyi. Rita likes boys very much, and has a very good relationship with Ruyi’s father and T’s father.

After Rita returned to the base, according to regulations, she needed to visit her once a month. Fortunately, my Rita has a strong ability to adapt. The trainer said that I could visit her anytime, so I went! It was the first time we met after 24 days of separation.

Rita was very serious in training and loved her work. The trainer taught her very well.

It is not easy to become a qualified guide dog. There are tens of millions of visually impaired people in our country, but there are only about 200 guide dogs in service. Moreover, many regions do not understand guide dogs enough, and rejecting them also makes the dogs and blind people very sad. Fortunately, in recent years, everyone has been working hard to help promote guide dogs. Here, I also appeal to everyone, if you see a working guide dog, please do not reject them. They have received professional training and will never hurt people. If you like her very much, please do not call her, do not touch her, and do not feed her, so as not to distract her and bring danger to the blind.

If a blind person raises one hand and stands still, it means that he needs help. If you are not in a hurry at the time, you can take the initiative to ask if there is anything you can do for them. Thank you for your kindness on behalf of our guide dogs and blind friends.

Although Rita gave me a lot of housework when she was little, and I was so tired that my whole body ached, and she made me cry many times when she was sick, the joy she brought me was incomparable.

Rita passed the safety assessment with full marks not long ago, and will take a comprehensive assessment in the next few days. I believe my little Rita will be great.

Rita has met many noble people since she was a child, including the aforementioned T Dad, Ruyi’s parents, counselors, the master of the base, and trainers, etc. I believe that baby Rita will meet more noble people when she serves the society in the future.

Thank you.
