I was in my junior year and I went to get her back home after my exams on June 29th. I had been thinking about raising a golden retriever for a long time. At that time, I thought that I would raise a golden retriever during the summer vacation of my junior year or senior year so that I could train her and play with her at home during the summer vacation.
At first, I went to Weibo and QQ to find many kennels. I was planning to go to Shenzhen in July to look at dogs and had already contacted the kennels. But on a sleepless night, I received a WeChat message from my mother saying that her colleague’s friend’s family was selling dogs. I was looking at the photos sent by her colleague. I didn’t think much when I looked at them for the first time, but I fell in love with them after the second time because I found that there was a dog that looked very much like me!!! The golden retriever’s eyes were a little wide apart, and its eyes were not big when it was young… I showed it to my boyfriend and he said it looked like me. I showed it to my mother and she also said it looked like me. Even my grandmother said it looked like me. Do you think it was decided? It didn’t. At first, I wanted to buy a double-blooded dog with a certificate, but later I let it go. It didn’t matter as long as it was pure and good-looking (my boyfriend said it looked like me, how could I be so obedient). Later, I chatted with her mother and owner on WeChat and set a date to see the dogs. I went with my boyfriend.
At this time, she was about two months and twenty days old. Once she was held, she would not move. She would let you hold her obediently. At that time, she liked her boyfriend more. I frowned when I held her.

Then I was thinking about finishing the exam quickly! At the beginning, the name I prepared was the male dog’s name, Male Gun. My mother laughed at me when she heard it for the first time and said that it would be better to raise another one named Beidiao. I was speechless… Because she is a younger sister and looks like me, I named her Ermei (the second child here is called the younger sister).
Finally, it was the 29th!
I didn’t even take a photo of her going home in the car. I drove the car home and my boyfriend was holding her in the passenger seat. As soon as the car started, she looked around and twisted around to look. The picture above was taken when I got home and said I would take her to adapt to the community environment. In fact, she is very clingy and knows to walk with people in the courtyard. She didn’t need a leash when walking on the side of the road for safety! Because puppies can’t walk too much, I went home after a while. She
fell asleep soon after returning home
. I prepared a relatively large cage for her, one meter wide and two meters long, and placed it next to the living room. There was a toilet and feces basin inside. The floor of the house is tiled, so it was a bit slippery when she first entered the house, but she got used to it after walking a few more steps. The first time she urinated at home, I was still tidying up the cage for her, and she urinated on the non-slip mat in the cage. At that time, I was still thinking that it was fortunate that she was in the cage. I took a diaper to absorb the urine and put it in a special toilet and feces basin.
No one fought with her for toys on the first night. She fell asleep directly. At night, it was time to sleep. She was originally locked in the cage, but she cried miserably, so I let her out. Oh, she urinated in the dining room on the first day, and I cleaned it up… But the other times she urinated and defecated were all solved in the right place.
Because I didn’t lock her in the cage the night before, I got up a little early the next day and prepared for XXX to be all over the house. But there was no XXX. I checked three times and didn’t see it. I was super proud at that time. The picture below is when I got up in the morning and turned on the light to check, and she just looked at me like this.
Then I fed her breakfast, but she didn’t poop. My mother said it was okay and she should know it herself. I went to the bedroom to take a nap. But within three minutes of lying down, my mother-in-law started calling me. As soon as I left, she pooped at the door of my room. It was super smelly. I wiped it with a wet tissue and it still smelled. My mother-in-law mopped the small area and the smell disappeared… Of course, I beat her… She ran back to her nest. Then I went to take a nap. When I woke up, I checked if she had urinated randomly. I sat on the sofa and watched her sleeping. After she woke up, I was very careful because she would urinate after waking up for a few minutes to ten minutes. But I still didn’t watch her. The toilet bowl was in the cage (I didn’t change the place for fear that she couldn’t find it). She urinated outside the cage parallel to the bowl… I thought it was difficult for her to enter the cage. I put two boxes inside and outside the entrance of the cage. I taught her once and she could use it by herself. Since then, she has never gone to the toilet randomly. Her range of activities is now limited to the living room, dining room and garden (not small, enough for her to move around). The second night, I locked her in a cage to sleep. In fact, my second sister used to sleep in a cage at her mother’s master’s house. She didn’t cry much tonight. She cried once at 11 o’clock, and she cried again when my father came home at 3 o’clock. My mother came out to help her. She stopped crying after two times…
On the third day, I got up at 7 o’clock in the morning to feed her, clean up her poop and play with her. The weather was good today, so I took her to the lawn downstairs to play in the morning. As a result, she kept pulling grass and eating it. I was afraid that the grass was sprayed with pesticides… After playing for a while, I took her home. She didn’t urinate or defecate randomly! In the afternoon, when I fed her, she ran out of the garden as soon as I called her. I didn’t see her step on the front right sole of her foot. She whimpered two or three times, then raised her leg to walk, and then put it down again… I didn’t know whether it was serious or not, so I asked her mother’s owner. I rubbed her feet but it didn’t work. If she whimpered and cried, it meant that she was fine, so I was relieved. Tonight afternoon, I went out to watch a movie with my boyfriend and my sister. My mother-in-law was alone at home and wanted to keep her in a cage. As a result, when I got home after 5pm, my dad told me that she started barking as soon as I left, so my mother-in-law let her out. I checked the whole house again, but I didn’t see any peeing or defecating. She was very restless when she slept at night, and kept barking. My mother’s help was useless. It was a bit disturbing, but I was a bit reluctant to let her out again. The picture below shows her hair being combed and she turned into a corgi
(my boyfriend said this picture was ugly, but I think it’s super cute). I wanted to take a picture of her, but as soon as I took my hand away, she would hold her head up…
On the fourth day, at 7am, as soon as I left the room, I smelled a faint smell of poop. My heart tightened at that time, and then I found that my second sister had pooped in the special toilet bowl. I was a little proud that she had pooped twice after breakfast (about half an hour apart), so I shoveled poop three times in total in the morning. That smell… In the afternoon, my boyfriend came over. My second sister was a little afraid that he would not let her eat anything because he took her out to play (for fear of eating poisonous food). It was my boyfriend who educated her. I was a good person in front of her. But after feeding her some snacks, she threw herself into her boyfriend’s arms again… a simple girl. In the afternoon, my second sister ate the leaves of fake flowers and vomited because she couldn’t digest them! I was so scared. I fed her dinner but she still didn’t poop and I was worried. I went to the National Museum to watch the Big Bang concert, but I was slow to act. Half an hour after the show started, the ticket price started to increase. My boyfriend and I came back again, but my second sister still didn’t poop. I was really worried that she would die of bloating. I touched her belly and felt bloated (is it always like this?). I added another meal to her. Because she vomited in the afternoon, I was afraid that she would not digest it well. I only fed her two-thirds of the dinner. After nine o’clock in the evening, I gave her the remaining one-third. She went to drink some water again. I combed her hair and waited for more than twenty minutes. Finally, she pooped. I waited for her to poop all day and night and didn’t lock her up at night. The picture below is the rabbit routine….
Day 5. Now at 10:30, she is biting the toy on my leg. Second sister, welcome to my home.
Speaking of the changes after raising a golden retriever, my life at home has become regular. I get up at 7am (originally around 10:30am) and go to bed around 11pm. I have to eat breakfast in the morning, which makes me realize how difficult it is for my parents. There are so many things to worry about when raising a golden retriever, not to mention raising a child.
