Four years ago, I happily stepped into the “wonderful world” of Siamese cats, determined to raise rare-colored Siamese cats that stood out from the rest. At that time, I had only a superficial understanding of the color changes in Siamese cats. With great anticipation, I embarked on this cat – raising journey full of surprises and unexpected twists. Looking back now, I realize that I’ve experienced a journey that completely overturned my perception of Siamese cat fur colors.
At first, I thought that rare – colored Siamese cats could break the “darkening” curse. Whether it was the elegant chocolate color, the dreamy lavender color, or the gentle cream color, I believed they could maintain their unique hues. However, reality dealt me one “heavy” blow after another. My first cream tabby Siamese cat was like a pure “little angel” before the age of one. Its snow – white fur barely showed any other colors, with only the faintest hint of orange tabby patterns that were almost invisible to the naked eye and completely undetectable in photos. It looked just like an ordinary white cat. I eagerly hoped that it would stay that way and even felt proud to have such a special cat.

But who could have imagined that everything changed in the winter after it turned one year old. It was as if a “darkening acceleration button” had been pressed, and its fur color changed at an astonishing speed. The originally pure white fur gradually took on a faint shadow, and the color on its back became significantly darker. Although as a cream – colored Siamese, its color was inherently light and the “darkening” was not as dramatic as that of traditional Siamese cats, the subtle change in its fur still made me realize that no Siamese cat could escape the fate of “darkening”.
With this experience, I still didn’t give up and welcomed a cream point Siamese cat. From the photos, it was slightly darker in color than the cream tabby Siamese, and its unique point – color pattern gave it a distinctive charm. But as time went by, it also couldn’t avoid the “darkening” fate. Although the change was relatively slow, the gradually deepening fur color once again confirmed my discovery – Siamese cats of any color would eventually “darken”.
During these four years of cat – raising, I’ve witnessed the growth and color changes of Siamese cats of different colors and have come to a profound understanding of the mystery behind their fur color changes. Their fur colors are influenced by both genes and environmental temperature, especially the temperature, which has a significant impact. Cold environments cause their fur to darken, just like when winter comes, Siamese cats seem to turn on their “darkening mode” as if they’re “fighting” against the cold.
Even though I now know the inevitable “darkening” fate of Siamese cats, my love for them has not diminished in the slightest. Each Siamese cat has a unique personality and charm, and their companionship has brought me endless joy and warmth. If someone asks me which type of Siamese cat is less likely to darken significantly, I would tell them that red cream and cream – colored ones are relatively better in this regard. But at the same time, one should be prepared for the possibility of others mistaking them for “ordinary white rural cats”, especially cream tabby Siamese, whose pure white appearance in the early stage is very likely to cause such misunderstandings.
These four years of cat – raising experience have not only allowed me to enjoy wonderful moments with my Siamese cats but also given me a deeper understanding of these lovely creatures. Their “darkening” may be a bit of a pity, but it is precisely this unique change that makes them the most special beings in the pet world. In the future, I will still accompany my Siamese cats, witnessing every moment of their growth. No matter how their fur colors change, in my heart, they will always be my most precious treasures.
