In the long river of my life, Xiaohu is the brightest star, illuminating countless days and nights with its unique light. It is not just a cat but an indispensable member of my family and the warmest company in my life.
Xiaohu has an astonishingly sharp sense of hearing. Whenever family members return home, it can always clearly hear the familiar footsteps in advance. The moment you take out the key and open the door, it is already sitting by the shoe rack or at the door like a loyal little soldier, with eyes full of anticipation and joy. On those days when I’m extremely tired and overwhelmed by life, as soon as I open the door and see Xiaohu’s small figure, all the fatigue vanishes instantly, replaced by endless joy and warmth, as if all my troubles are cured by it.
Xiaohu has a special “fear” of living things. I remember once, my grandmother bought a live fish home. Curious Xiaohu, like discovering a new world, cautiously approached it. But the live fish kept struggling on the chopping board, and the “plop plop” sound and wriggling body startled Xiaohu. It darted far away in a flash, and its panicked look was really amusing. Since then, Xiaohu seems to have stayed away from all moving “strange creatures”, such as moths, sparrows, etc., and hides as far as possible when it sees them, which is both cute and interesting.

Sunbathing is one of Xiaohu’s greatest hobbies. It especially likes to stay in a daze on the balcony, sometimes for an entire afternoon. The warm sunlight spills on its soft fur, and it lies there quietly, squinting its eyes as if the whole world has nothing to do with it, immersed in its own little world. Moreover, Xiaohu is very clean. Every time it finishes urinating and defecating in the litter box, it will carefully bury the feces, making it very convenient for us to clean up. Thanks to this, the house is always kept clean and tidy.
Xiaohu is a complete “homebody cat”. It doesn’t like going out, being lazy and timid. Over the past twelve years, except for two forced trips out for a bath, it has hardly seen the outside world. Even just going to the corridor scares it so much that it cries loudly and trembles all over. As time passes, it has completely settled in the small world at home and become the most “reclusive” member of the family.
However, time spares no one, and recently Xiaohu got sick. Perhaps due to old age, its health has deteriorated significantly, it moves much less, and has become even lazier. Last week, it was so seriously ill that it could barely get up. Seeing its weak appearance, my mother was extremely worried and made daily trips to the veterinary hospital without hesitation. When Xiaohu couldn’t eat, my mother would carefully open its mouth and feed it bit by bit. With my mother’s meticulous care and perseverance, Xiaohu finally overcame the illness. It’s truly blessed. But this illness has also made it much thinner. When it was young, it had a good appetite and could eat two kilograms of cat food a month. Now, it can barely finish half a kilogram. It used to weigh 17 kilograms at its heaviest, but now it’s only 11 kilograms. Seeing its increasingly emaciated appearance, my heart aches.
Xiaohu has accompanied me through countless spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Every moment of it is deeply engraved in my mind. The joy, warmth, and touching moments it has brought me are beyond words. I pray that Xiaohu can get better soon and continue to accompany me through the future, until the day I get married and have children. I hope that in the days to come, I can still see it sunbathing on the balcony every day and find it at the door waiting for me when I get home. Xiaohu, you must be healthy, because I still want to continue our story for a long, long time.
