If you aspire to be the coolest person on the block, getting a Siamese cat that behaves like a dog is definitely a great choice. I can vouch for this from my own experience with my beloved Siamese cat.
My Siamese cat came into my life through adoption. When I first brought it home, it was an unneutered bundle of energy with an insatiable desire to explore the outside world. It would let out persistent and loud howls, expressing its eagerness to venture beyond the confines of our home. Concerned about its safety, I purchased a leash and decided to take it out for walks.
At first, in the downstairs lawn, it was a bit timid yet curious. It would bravely play around but as soon as someone approached, it would quickly scurry into the bushes for cover. Even when I loosened the leash, it showed remarkable self-control and didn’t dash off in all directions. Over time, I noticed that it was becoming more and more at ease in its surroundings, so I gradually stopped using the leash. It could then frolic freely in the open area downstairs, and I would simply catch it when it was time to head back home.

As our bond grew stronger and I got to know its habits better, I realized that I didn’t have to keep a constant eye on it. Every night around nine or ten o’clock, I would go downstairs and call out its name, and it would come running back to me, its little paws pattering on the ground. This marked the beginning of its free-range life, which brought both freedom to the cat and a sense of joy to our family.
However, its adventures weren’t without a few scares. Twice, it didn’t return home at night as expected. I worried all night, wondering where it could be. But to my relief, it showed up the next morning or evening, patiently waiting at the entrance of the unit building downstairs. Word quickly spread among the neighbors, both upstairs and downstairs, that there was a Siamese cat from the 13th floor that liked to roam around on its own downstairs.
Initially, it was too afraid to enter the elevator with other people. But as it became more accustomed to its environment and the people around, its courage grew. Now, it has no qualms about stepping into the elevator. In fact, sometimes before I even have a chance to go downstairs to fetch it, kind neighbors would bring it back up to our floor.
Recently, my cat surprised us with a new behavior. In the past, I would take it downstairs, and then my spouse and I would go for a leisurely walk. One day, out of the blue, it started following us from behind and joined us on our walk. It trotted along beside us, just like a loyal dog. It was such a heartwarming sight, and it made our walks even more enjoyable.
This Siamese cat of mine has truly become a unique and cherished member of our family. Its dog-like behaviors have not only made it stand out in the neighborhood but also brought so much laughter and warmth to our daily lives. It has taught me the importance of patience, love, and adaptability in raising a pet. And I’m sure that as long as we continue to care for it, it will keep being the charming and lovable presence that it is, making me the envy of the block as the owner of this amazing “Siamese dog.”
