The Unexpected Cat Adoption Journey

The Unexpected Cat Adoption Journey

Once upon a time, my boyfriend and I were eager to have a small pet, but we were hesitant because we were worried about not being able to take good care of it. The idea of having a cat lingered in our minds, but we never really took action. We often visited a nearby pet store, which had a special adoption room where many pets that couldn’t be kept at home for various reasons or newly born cubs were sent. In our spare time, we liked to play with the cats and dogs in the store, enjoying the brief moments of joy spent with small animals.

On a school holiday, with nothing to do, we went to the pet store as usual. Coincidentally, several aunts were bringing in several kittens that were just a few months old. Among them, a four – or five – month – old Siamese kitten immediately caught our attention. Through the cage, we gently teased it. The aunts saw this and said warmly, “Would you like to hold her?” So, we spent a delightful half – hour with this little Siamese cat. She kept burrowing into my arms, making a purring sound in her throat. At that moment, my heart melted. The scene was extremely warm when my boyfriend held her.

One of the aunts smiled and said, “She likes you two so much. It seems you are a perfect match. Why don’t you go to the website and fill out the adoption form? If you do, I will definitely tell the people in the office to choose you as her parents.” Hearing this, I immediately took out my phone and started filling out the form. On the way home, my boyfriend asked me worriedly, “Should we think about it again? We are still students. What if we can’t take good care of her? Besides, I don’t feel as attached to cats as I do to dogs. Cats are not very affectionate.” However, seeing how happy I was, he didn’t say much at that time. I replied, “Let’s fill it out first. Siamese cats are very popular. There must be a lot of people who want to adopt them. It’s not certain that we will be the ones to get her.”

Unexpectedly, when the results were announced, only I and an old lady had submitted adoption applications. In the end, I successfully won the custody of the little Siamese cat.

Since then, life has changed wonderfully. My boyfriend named the little cat Dahuang, saying it was for the contrast and cuteness. Gradually, his love for Dahuang even exceeded mine. Now, we plan to adopt another cat next semester to keep Dahuang company.

Dahuang is really an extremely clingy cat. When at home, she must lie on our laps, enjoying exclusive intimacy; at night when sleeping, she insists on getting into the bed and snuggling up to us; in the morning, she wakes me up with her purring and gentle rubbing. Every time we come home from shopping, she can’t wait to check the shopping bags. If we don’t let her, she will “wula wula” shout non – stop. When the aunt comes to clean the house, she will definitely follow closely the whole time, curiously staring at what the aunt is doing. Whenever we come home, the moment we unlock the door, we can hear her eager cries inside. As soon as the door is opened, she circles around us happily.

Dahuang is also a complete “little glutton”. Once, we went out for half an hour and came back to find that the doughnut had been eaten by her. She has a special preference for fried chicken, although we basically don’t give it to her. Catnip is her favorite. My former roommate also had a cat. At night, Dahuang and her little partner worked together to bite through the snack bag placed on the living – room floor. The two little gluttonous cats ate a lot. Sometimes I feel as if I’m not raising a cat, but a warm and clingy little dog.

The arrival of Dahuang has added endless joy and warmth to our lives. From the initial hesitation to now being deeply immersed in the time spent with her, this unexpected adoption journey has brought us full of love and touch. We are also more looking forward to the days to come with her and the new member.
