When it comes to bringing a lovely cat into our lives, choosing the right purchase channel is of great significance. There are generally three main channels for buying cats, each with its own characteristics and pros and cons.
The first channel is the so-called “backyard cats.” These cats are usually bred by individuals at home, and it’s difficult to ensure the purity of their breeds. If you buy from a familiar circle, it might be okay. However, in most cases, the quality of these cats varies greatly. The advantage of buying a backyard cat is its affordability, usually priced between 1200 and 1800 yuan. Many backyard cats are also sold on online shopping platforms like Xianyu. This is the least recommended channel because there is a high probability of receiving a sick cat. Such cats may have health problems due to improper breeding conditions and lack of professional care, which will not only bring disappointment but also potential financial and emotional burdens to the new owners.

The second option is pet stores. In regular pet stores, there is usually a purchase contract when buying a cat, providing a certain degree of protection. However, customers are also likely to be deceived and the prices may be inflated. In terms of appearance and quality, they are generally reliable. We can judge the quality of the cat by observing the breeding environment. A clean and well-maintained environment usually indicates that the cats are taken good care of. The price of cats in pet stores is approximately between 2000 and 3500 yuan. Although there is some security, consumers still need to be cautious and carefully compare different stores to get the best deal.
The third channel is high-end catteries. These catteries have almost no drawbacks except for their high prices. They usually provide after-sales guarantees, which means that if there are any problems with the cat after purchase, the new owner can get professional support and solutions. The cats in high-end catteries are often well-bred, with good health and pure bloodlines.
Now, let me talk about my own cat. I bought it from a cattery that is between a regular pet store and a high-end cattery. The cattery is located in a villa area, providing a quiet resting environment for the cats. When I entered the cattery, there was no obvious unpleasant smell, which showed that it was cleaned regularly every day. Each cat’s nest accommodates a maximum of three cats, and every time we contact a new group of cats, we need to change gloves and aprons to avoid cross-infection. These strict hygiene measures make people feel at ease.
Based on these favorable conditions, I chose a silver shaded British Shorthair that caught my eye. The original price was 3800 yuan, and finally, I negotiated it down to 3500 yuan, and the cattery also included coverage for serious diseases within 100 days and lifetime vaccination. Although the cat’s bloodline is not very pure, it has some tiger stripes, and the texture on its back is not very uniform. After a period of time, I found that it had a slight tear stain. But through daily eye drops and careful cleaning, it has almost recovered.
In conclusion, when choosing a cat purchase channel, we need to carefully consider our own needs and economic situation. Each channel has its own advantages and disadvantages, and we should make a rational choice to ensure that we can bring home a healthy and lovely cat companion.
