In the late October of 2020, while I was unemployed and extremely bored at home in Chongqing, I decided to take a big step – getting a cat. After doing some research, as I had been planning to raise a cat for a long time, I found a relatively reliable pet store. When I entered the store, there were four silver shaded British Shorthair kittens in total. At first, I took a fancy to a two – month – old one. However, on that day, it seemed very timid and ignored me even when I tried to 逗 it with a cat teaser. Feeling that we didn’t have a connection, I then set my eyes on another three – month – old kitten. This is the chubby cat I have now, named Qixi. At that time, Qixi was very lively. It was full of energy when I played with it, but it never made a sound. For a while, I even suspected that it was a mute cat. Since it was my first time to raise a cat, I chose this tough – looking kitten. The pictures below were taken about three days after I brought it home.
When buying a cat from a pet store, there are usually some problems such as severe tear stains and ear mites. But as a crazy cat – lover, I am careful and virtuous. These problems are easy for me to deal with. I bought Ear – Kang drops to treat ear mites, as well as normal saline and boric acid lotion to treat tear stains. I persisted for almost two months. With the help of Advocate deworming medicine, the ear mites were completely cured, and the tear stains were greatly reduced. Because British Shorthairs have short tear ducts, it’s impossible to completely eliminate tear stains.
Now, Qixi is almost eight months old and weighs more than nine pounds. It is really a simple – minded and cute cat. It is extremely clingy and follows me around every moment. It often asks me to hold it. When I pick it up, it will hold my neck with its two “hands” like a child, rub its head against my chin, and make sweet meowing sounds. Anyway, I really love it very much and feel a great sense of achievement because I have taken good care of it and it is very healthy and robust.
Taking care of Qixi has become an important part of my life. Every morning, it greets me with its warm presence, and every evening, it snuggles up beside me as I relax. We have developed a deep bond. I remember once when I was feeling down, Qixi seemed to sense my emotions. It climbed onto my lap and purred softly, looking at me with its big, innocent eyes. That moment made me feel so warm and comforted. Raising Qixi has not only filled my empty time but also taught me the meaning of responsibility and unconditional love. I look forward to spending many more wonderful years with my dear Qixi, watching it grow and creating countless beautiful memories together.
