Responsible Cat Adoption: My Experience with a Silver Shaded British Shorthair

When it comes to cat adoption, the topic of “easy – to – raise” cats often arises. A price of 1200 yuan for a cat might indicate that it’s a backyard – bred cat, especially when purchased from a pet store. (It’s important to note that not all backyard breeding is bad, but we should firmly resist those unethical backyard breeders who keep cats in filthy, over – crowded conditions and treat them as nothing more than breeding machines.)

For novice cat owners, it’s highly recommended to visit a local, reputable cattery in person. Cats in such catteries grow up with their parents and play with other healthy cats. They are mostly allowed to roam freely rather than being cooped up in cages all day. This has a significant positive impact on their personality development. Moreover, professional cat – loving staff in good catteries can provide guidance, teaching the cats well and making them relatively more affectionate and innocent. In general, adopting from a good cattery is more worry – free for new cat owners. When it comes to backyard – bred cats, it’s really a matter of luck.

My silver shaded British Shorthair was purchased from a cattery in Chengdu. It cost 3000 yuan, which included three rounds of vaccinations. On the first day I brought it home, I took it for a comprehensive physical examination. Fortunately, it had no infectious diseases and was in good health.

My cat has an extremely friendly personality. On the first day at home, it showed almost no signs of stress. It didn’t even hide under the bed. It quickly adapted to the new environment and became my little shadow, purring all the time. It got used to using the litter box, burying its feces, and eating with ease. By the second day, it insisted on sleeping on the bed. Almost every day, it falls asleep on my shoulder, and sometimes it even forcefully presses its head against mine.

Like all kittens, mine is full of curiosity. It engages in night – time running around, tries to carry flowers around (to keep it safe, I’ve replaced all real flowers with fake ones to prevent potential poisoning), and scratches the carpet. However, it’s very obedient. When I make a hissing sound, it immediately realizes its mistake and rarely repeats the misbehavior when I’m watching. Now, it has started to habitually use the cat scratching post and cat climbing frame to sharpen its claws.

Of course, the night – time running around is inevitable. The solution is to move fragile and easily – toppled items out of the way.

Before getting a cat, I had been an online cat admirer for a long time and had learned a great deal of relevant knowledge. I bought a large number of cat – related items in preparation and made a firm mental commitment to take care of my cat responsibly until the end of its life. Only then did I decide to purchase a cat. I hope that everyone who adopts a cat does so not on a whim but is truly committed to taking care of this lovely little life for its entire lifespan.

My cat is a semi – folded ear cat (its ears don’t fold completely). Initially, I didn’t intend to buy a folded – ear cat, but due to various coincidences, it became a part of my family. I learned that its parents are in very good health. It’s a result of a cross between a folded – ear and a straight – ear cat, with its mother being a folded – ear cat that is three years old and has never shown any signs of illness.

However, any cat with the folded – ear gene has a risk of developing genetic diseases. Here, I advocate that people should not buy folded – ear cats and should resist irresponsible breeding practices. When these cats get sick, they suffer a great deal, and it’s truly heart – wrenching to watch. If you already have a folded – ear cat at home, seek medical treatment if it gets sick and never abandon it. Try your best to fulfill your responsibilities as a cat owner.

My precious cat will definitely be spayed in the future. Under no circumstances will I ever abandon it.

Now, it’s time to share some pictures. My cat is almost four months old. I hope it grows fatter and develops prominent cheeks soon! I wish it to always be a healthy, mischievous, and affectionate little one.
