When I brought Kuangkuang home, it was only two and a half months old and weighed just two pounds and three ounces. I still remember how it looked in the seller’s photo (the one on the right), which seemed quite cute. But when I saw it in person, I was a bit surprised. The Kuangkuang in front of me was thin and not very good – looking, with a sniffly nose. As soon as it entered the house, it walked carefully along the wall. Looking at its poor and cute appearance, I affectionately called it the younger brother of Baili Shouyue – Baili Shoukuang.
The person in the pet store told me that Kuangkuang had a bit of a cold and suggested feeding it some amoxicillin. But I didn’t dare to give it the medicine easily, so I took it directly to the hospital for an examination. The examination results shocked me. Kuangkuang not only had severe ear mites but also suffered from a respiratory tract infection. At the same time, it had malnutrition, a slight anemia, and a low fever. Moreover, the feline panleukopenia test was weakly positive. At that time, the doctor advised me to go back and coordinate with the people in the pet store. The people in the pet store, however, told me not to treat it and even said they would give me another kitten. But looking at Kuangkuang’s tiny body, I couldn’t bear to give up on it. So I firmly told the doctor, “Let’s give it injections for treatment!”

For the next three days, I took Kuangkuang to the pet hospital for injections every day after work. During that period, I spent a lot of money on Didi rides to and from the hospital, but I didn’t feel sorry at all. I just hoped that Kuangkuang could get better soon. However, there were more troubles. Kuangkuang simply refused to eat the cat food brought back from the pet store. As soon as it smelled the food, it would paw at it with a look of disgust. There was no other way, so I had to cook chicken breast for it twice a day. I also tried mixing the meat with the cat food, but Kuangkuang could still pick out the meat and leave the cat food behind.
Since I really couldn’t get up early in the morning, in order to make sure Kuangkuang could eat well, I bought a lot of cat food cans of various brands, such as Ziwi Peak, Sheba, and Leo. But to my headache, Kuangkuang would have diarrhea as soon as it ate the puree – like cat food cans, and it was okay when eating the shredded meat – like ones. The doctor said that maybe its stomach and intestines were not in good condition and it couldn’t digest high – protein food. During that time, taking care of Kuangkuang really exhausted me, and I even felt a bit neurasthenic.
Although the process of taking care of Kuangkuang was full of hardships, I still persevered, and of course, it was because of Kuangkuang’s extremely good personality. Every time I called it, it would immediately run over happily, being extremely clingy. Once, I got up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. The light was so bright that it could hardly open its eyes, but it still wobbled over to rub against my feet. Kuangkuang has never bitten or scratched anyone. It keeps its tail upright all day long, purring as it walks around the house, and wants to jump onto people’s legs all the time.
Kuangkuang really likes the cat teaser I bought for it and plays with it like crazy. One day, it slept soundly on my leg, and it didn’t wake up no matter how I moved it. Looking at its cute sleeping face, I felt that all the hard work was worth it. I also bought a cat tree. I was so tired that my hands almost broke when installing it, but Kuangkuang didn’t know how to play with it at first, so I had to take some posed photos of it. Kuangkuang’s ears are yellow because of the ear mites. I washed them with medicine and applied ointment, which dyed its ears yellow, and now I can’t wash it off no matter what. The doctor said that maybe the fur was oxidized. Alas, I can only wait for it to shed its fur in the future.
Kuangkuang has a special love for the cat bed I bought. It has to stay on it. Sometimes, I would find it lying on the bathroom floor sleeping and even secretly smiling. When I took a sneak photo of it, it would notice me. Its clever little appearance is extremely cute. As time goes by, Kuangkuang gradually gained weight, got a little belly, and often licks its fur in various ways. When it sleeps, it always lies sprawled out, without any image at all. But in my eyes, every look of it is so cute.
When the delicious food I bought for Kuangkuang arrived, it was always full of curiosity and couldn’t wait to have a taste. I still remember when Kuangkuang was four months old, I tried dressing it in female cat clothes, and it really looked happy all over its face. During the National Day holiday, I sent Kuangkuang to the pet store for boarding. In the car on the way there, its obedient appearance made me a bit reluctant to part with it. And when it came back home after the boarding ended, I was overjoyed because I could be with this lovely little guy day and night again.
Kuangkuang, this once thin and sickly kitten, has now become an indispensable part of my life. In the process of taking care of it, I have paid a lot, but I have also harvested endless love and warmth. I believe that in the days to come, we will experience more wonderful times together, and I will always be with it and witness its growth.
