At first, I simply wanted to keep a pet cat that looked pleasing to the eye to dispel the loneliness in my life. Unexpectedly, my encounter with Buring opened a wonderful journey that was just like raising a daughter.
Buring’s personality is extremely charming. It is soft, cute, and very quiet on weekdays, rarely making a sound. What’s more surprising is that it can understand its own name. As long as I call it gently, it will run over cheerfully. At night, it can either sleep obediently in the cage or snuggle up beside me to sleep, never making any noise. This kind of obedient and sensible appearance makes me often think of it when I’m at work. I can’t wait to get off work early and go home to be with it. When it doesn’t want to eat, just like a parent worrying about a child, I rack my brains to think of various ways. I’m afraid that it won’t get enough nutrition and affect its physical health. It’s really like taking care of a child with great care.

Buring’s sense of understanding was vividly demonstrated in a small incident. Usually, I would cook chicken breast before going to bed at night. The next morning, I would tear it into small strips, put it in its bowl, and then go to work. However, one day, when I came home from overtime, I found that the chicken breast in the bowl hadn’t been touched at all. It turned out that the chicken breast I cooked was too dry and tough, and the pieces were also too big. Buring had been hungry all day. Looking at me, who was extremely tired, it seemed to understand my difficulties. When I stroked its head and said apologetically, “Buring, I’m sorry. The chicken breast cooked today is too tough. Mom is really tired today. Let me take a break and cook it for you again, okay?” It looked up at me with its big watery eyes, then gently touched my hand with its head, and then ran to the bowl and started eating the chicken breast that had been left there for a day. At that moment, I was deeply moved by its understanding, and my heart was filled with emotion and heartache. The next day, I didn’t hesitate to prepare a large can of delicious food for it and also kept cans and cat food at home, for fear of similar situations where it might go hungry again.
However, Buring can also be naughty. When it first arrived home, it urinated on the bed three times and refused to go to the litter box. In order to correct this bad habit, I tied it beside the litter box for more than half an hour. At first, it kept struggling to break free from the rope. After a while, perhaps understanding my intention, it finally urinated in the litter box. Since then, it has never urinated on the bed again. It seems that this small punishment still worked.
Now, Buring is already five months old. A few days ago, after eating a cat can given by the pet hospital, it became picky about food. It no longer wants to eat chicken breast and has no interest in cat food. Even the salmon I bought specially for it, it doesn’t care about. I changed other cans for it, but it still doesn’t like them. It would rather starve than take a few bites reluctantly. This is exactly the same as a child throwing a tantrum, only wanting to eat snacks and not wanting to eat meals. Facing this situation, I also have my own way. I mixed the can and chicken breast together in one bowl, put the cat food in another bowl, and prepared running water beside it. Then I tied it within the range where there were only these three things. At first, it was still angry with me and squatted there motionless. I deliberately ignored it. When it saw that I didn’t respond, it went to drink some water. I still didn’t let it go. Eventually, it obediently ate the chicken breast. After eating half a bowl, I let it go. It happily ran back to the balcony to sunbathe. Its appearance really made me angry and funny at the same time, worrying me like an “old mother”.
Looking back on the little bits and pieces of getting along with Buring, there are laughter, touch, and helplessness. It is just like my daughter, playing an indispensable role in my life. Every move and every growth of it touches my heart. Seeing it growing up healthily and happily now, I feel sincerely relieved. I hope that in the future days, we can continue to be together and create more beautiful memories.
