In the days of accompanying my cat Hebao, I thought I already knew everything about her. However, life always brings me unexpected surprises, allowing me to get to know this lovely family member anew.
Last year, when I took Hebao to get neutered, the experience of having her blood drawn at the hospital gave me a whole new understanding of her. At that time, when the doctor was drawing her blood, he couldn’t help but praise: “Your cat is so well – behaved. She doesn’t resist when having her blood drawn.” After hearing this, I was extremely proud and replied with pride: “Yes, my baby is very timid. She won’t lose her temper no matter what you do to her outside.” At that time, I firmly believed in Hebao’s docility.
After the blood was drawn, the test took an hour. The doctor suggested that I go out for lunch. Thinking there was nothing else to do, I went out with peace of mind. When I came back, the scene in front of me shocked me. I saw four male doctors busy, using both hands, extremely occupied. I wondered in my heart what kind of fierce animal had come to make the doctors so busy. At this time, one doctor saw me and said helplessly: “Your cat is really fierce. She can be ranked among the top three fierce animals in our hospital. As soon as you left, her eyes changed. Haven’t you seen this before?” Hearing this, I could hardly believe my ears.

Looking at Hebao’s fierce appearance, I couldn’t help but recall some previous things. Last year, when I took her home for the New Year, my parents said that Hebao was fierce to them. When a friend came to my home to see her, she also told me that Hebao hissed at her. At that time, I wholeheartedly defended Hebao and replied without thinking: “Impossible. You must be misunderstanding because you don’t raise cats.” Now that I think about it, I was so blindly confident. When I returned to the hospital and walked up to her and called out, she was probably still angry and hissed at me too. But after a while, she realized it was me and immediately changed her tone. At that moment, I saw her “other side” for the first time and finally understood that she had always been giving in to me at home. I had been so complacent before, thinking that she was just a gentle little darling. I was really too naive.
Recalling the daily life with Hebao, she actually has many other cute and unique little habits. Since she was a kitten, she has especially liked to sleep on my hand. Especially in winter, when it’s cold, she must get into the quilt and sleep on my pillow. Her small body curls up beside my hand, warm. While I enjoy the warmth she brings, I worry about her hair loss problem. However, because I have the habit of using a lint – roller and mopping the floor every day, I don’t really think it’s a big trouble. As long as she is happy, I am satisfied. Sometimes, she will playfully hide herself. Her small body hides in a corner or gets into a cardboard box, only showing a pair of shiny eyes, as if playing hide – and – seek. Her appearance seems to be saying: “Who can tell that I’m a little cat when I’m hiding here?”
Hebao is like this, with an unpredictable “dual – sided” personality. When she is at home, she is gentle, cute, and dependent on me, my sweet little baby. But once she is outside or feels threatened, she will show her fierce side. But it is precisely these unique personalities that make her image in my heart more vivid. In the future days, I know there will be more stories about her waiting for us to write. I am also looking forward to continuing to accompany her and witnessing more of her wonderful moments.
