My Cat: A Source of Joy and a Lesson in Responsibility

My Cat: A Source of Joy and a Lesson in Responsibility

The life with a pet is like a wonderful journey full of unknowns and surprises. And my silver shaded British Shorthair cat has brought me countless joys, scares, and moments of touch.

There has been a debate about her leg – lifting action. Some people say it’s called a split. Thinking about it carefully, it does seem to be the case. However, sometimes the poses she makes are really puzzling, as if she is showing off her unique “all – around skills” and looking so proud as if to say “Neener, neener!” After doing these strange actions, she would act as if she was very tired, looking incredibly cute.

Her sleeping postures are also extremely diverse, with no limit to how strange they can get. But sometimes, she would be very sweet and come to warm my hands on her own initiative. Her adorable appearance at that moment could instantly melt my heart. Sometimes, I can’t help but imitate her actions to experience her little world.

The most obvious experience of having her around is the white cat hairs flying all over the house. Every time I want to buy a black piece of clothing, I have to muster up a great deal of courage because it means I’ll have to fight against those white hairs all the time. However, this is nothing compared to the really terrifying experience she had.

This cat is extremely bold but not at all careful. Once, a rural cat that was fostered at my home liked to stroll on the windowsill. It was so agile that it seemed to walk on flat ground. My cat saw this and tried to copy it. One day when I went downstairs to buy something, she opened the screen window by herself when I was not at home and went out to the windowsill. When I got home and saw the open screen window but couldn’t find her, I was so scared that I almost lost my soul. It was the seventh floor! I searched everywhere like crazy. Finally, I learned that she had fallen from the seventh – floor window. Fortunately, she survived, but her leg was broken. Seeing her lying on the operating table, I felt both heart – broken and angry, but most of all, I was deeply self – reproachful. I kept blaming myself for not protecting the house well enough. If I had been more careful, she wouldn’t have encountered such a danger. At that moment, I deeply realized that raising a pet is not just about providing food and shelter; it also means being responsible for their safety. If you want to keep a cat, you must make all the necessary preparations at home to avoid leaving irreparable regrets like I did.

During the two or three months after the surgery, she was very impatient, as if complaining that the injury had taken away her former freedom. Fortunately, her leg gradually recovered. Since then, she has become especially fond of lifting her legs, as if commemorating this special experience. Usually, when I take the initiative to play with her, she looks at me with disdain. But when I’m busy, she insists on seeking attention and causing trouble, not letting me do my work properly. Looking at her naughty behavior, I can’t help but be both angry and amused.

When she was a kitten, she loved to crouch in boxes and make funny faces, looking both cute and comical. In short, during the days of raising her, my emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness have all been magnified. She is like a real – life little being, experiencing birth, old age, sickness, and death. Although she brings me pain and troubles, she also brings me great happiness. She is like a healing angel, warming my hands with her fluffy body and also warming my heart. As long as I can bear those occasional small setbacks, she will be the best companion in my life.
