Xiuxiu's Pregnancy and Giving Birth

Xiuxiu’s Pregnancy and Giving Birth

After she recovered from her illness, she was full of energy. So I could finally carry out the plan I had been plotting for a long time – to find a mate for her and have a litter of her kittens in this world! Usually, a female cat goes to a male cat’s home and stays there for a while for mating. But I was afraid that Xiuxiu would be bullied if she went to someone else’s home. So after careful selection and much pleading, I finally reached an agreement with others to bring the male cat to my home. He would be like a “son-in-law who marries into the bride’s family”.

It’s the male cat with a chubby face above. His name is Paopao. I chose him because his eyes are a rare blue color. Generally, British Shorthair Silver Shaded cats have yellow or green eyes, and blue eyes are very uncommon. Xiuxiu refused many times, but in the end, Paopao managed to mate with her forcefully.

However, I wasn’t sure whether she was pregnant until two weeks before she gave birth.

The above are the last few photos taken in this house. In order to prepare Xiuxiu for pregnancy and to make our lives better, I decided to move to a better environment.

So after intensively searching for a house, viewing it, and signing the contract, I successfully moved after the Spring Festival.

This is the first photo of Xiuxiu in the new home. She looks aloof, haughty, and really cool.

In the following days, she was always in the process of preparing for pregnancy. Since she was thin (she ate more than anyone else and was also gluttonous, and I didn’t mistreat her), she showed less of a pregnant belly compared to ordinary female cats. Moreover, the common pregnancy symptoms such as red and enlarged nipples didn’t appear on her. I even suspected for a while that she might not be pregnant.

But I always took care of her according to the standards for a pregnant cat. I thought that if she really wasn’t pregnant, it must be the will of heaven, and I wouldn’t plan to have her mated again in the future. Until that day when I saw her red nipples, I knew that she should have succeeded in getting pregnant.

She was much calmer about being pregnant than I was. I was extremely excited, as it was the first time I was going to welcome new lives into the world.

In addition, pregnancy really does make one look ugly, whether it’s a human or a cat.

The night before she was due to give birth, I was still playing with her claws and asking, “Xiuxiu, are you really pregnant?”

She didn’t care and gave me a look of disdain as if she were a queen: I’m in a bad mood. Go away.

Xiuxiu’s eyes can convey emotions. If she were a human, she would definitely be very beautiful.

At two o’clock in the morning that night, I was awakened by the meowing of the little kittens. She gave birth to four kittens silently all by herself, and she had already licked all the afterbirth clean. I was deeply touched at that moment, excited to welcome the new lives and also moved by her silently enduring the hardship of giving birth. Xiuxiu, you’re amazing.

During Xiuxiu’s postpartum confinement period, I was extremely careful not to neglect her. I stewed beef for her, cooked chicken, made fish soup, and peeled shrimps. I really worried a great deal about her and her kittens’ health. However, I could touch the kittens directly without wearing gloves, and Xiuxiu didn’t show any repulsion towards me!
