The Growth and Adoption of Xiuxiu's Kittens

The Growth and Adoption of Xiuxiu’s Kittens

I was horrified and didn’t want a little life to be lost in my hands. So I searched the Internet for many ways to save little kittens, which basically involved keeping them warm, giving them glucose, and feeding them milk powder.

So I took two days off work, set up an electric blanket, and fed her soup and a mixture of milk powder without sleep. I covered her with a quilt and kept telling her that she would definitely survive. Since they were too young to tell male from female at that time, I told her that if she got better and was a boy, I would name her Sunny, and if she was a girl, I would name her Xiaokui and keep her by my side.

To my great relief, she survived. The aftereffects were that she lost her hair on the head and seemed a bit “silly”.

After that near – death experience, she became “silly”. She walked with her feet turned outwards, staggering around. She couldn’t jump but only hop. She looked stupid and only knew to eat. When I picked her up, her limbs would become stiff. Usually, she would curl up, but when picked up, she would be rigid, as if very nervous. Although she was “silly”, I still decided to keep her by my side.

After all, I had decided from the beginning to keep the most beautiful one. Plus, I was afraid she would be bullied if she went to someone else’s home because of her “silliness”. So I thought maybe it was fate, and I kept this little “silly” cat, the only one that inherited her father’s silver – tipped color, by my side.

During Xiuxiu’s postpartum confinement period, generally speaking, she had a tough time. Although I was fully responsible for feeding Xiaokui, the other three kittens also made a lot of noise and disturbed her. For a while, she wanted to run out of the confinement room every day. It was always me who found her and carried her back. Fortunately, Aunt Miumiu would come to visit the kittens from time to time. People who didn’t know might think they were a family.

After two months of hardships, both Xiuxiu and I lost a lot of weight. The little kittens would meow loudly every day. When they grew a bit older, they would run around the house, chasing, playing, and making a mess, as if there were suddenly three more “Yiqi”s. I also had to bottle – feed Xiaokui and sometimes catch Xiuxiu, who was reluctant, to let the kittens drink her milk. It was really a headache.

Day by day, they grew up.

They were gradually taken home by good owners. Now the three kittens are all doing very well in their respective homes. Later, I will post photos of them when they grow up.
