I used to have two rural cats, but both ran away after being neutered, which was truly heartbreaking. Neither of them was particularly affectionate or good at acting coquettishly, but I didn’t mind—the joy of petting them outweighed their grumpy faces, haha.
This past April, the desire to have a cat reignited, and I quickly found a pet store and brought Fortune home. Although Fortune wasn’t the cat I fell in love with at first sight, compared to my previous rural cats, he’s much more gentle, affectionate, and coquettish. I’m very satisfied!
The experience has been watching him grow day by day while increasingly suspecting that I’ve actually adopted an orange pig. I’ve never seen a cat so greedy and food-obsessed. He demands three meals a day on time, plus various snacks, and he never leaves a single crumb. If I’m chewing something, he’ll come over to investigate. The sound of a package being opened will summon him instantly, and he’ll search frantically for food. He eats and licks everything. If there’s any leftover sauce on the table after takeout, the moment I open his cage, Fortune will rocket onto the table and lick it clean, hahaha. So, I basically don’t need to wipe the table—Fortune takes care of it inside and out.
This is Fortune on the way home from the pet store, shedding all over me, but I was so happy and blissfully cat-sniffing, hehehe.
From a young age, he’s been very clingy, making me feel like the cats I had before were fake. The feeling of being needed is so wonderful.
When he had corneal inflammation and needed injections, he was surprisingly well-behaved—he took two shots without a fuss, which was beyond my expectations.
The first time he took a 3-hour car ride to another city, he was also unexpectedly well-behaved—just looking at the scenery and sleeping the whole time.
My parents, who were initially strongly against me having a cat, fell in love with Fortune the first time they saw him. He really made me look good, haha.
After that, he grew up at lightning speed… and gradually became a bit… greasy.
As for being clingy… absolutely, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
British Shorthairs are relatively easy to care for, though they can be a bit temperamental. If you pet him in a way he doesn’t like, he’ll give you a gentle bite or a scratch, but he knows how to read people’s expressions and won’t go too hard. When he acts coquettishly, he’s shameless, and his meows are soft and delicate.
