Life with Nuomi: The Adorable Chaos of a British Shorthair

Life with Nuomi: The Adorable Chaos of a British Shorthair

My cat is named Nuomi, which means “sticky rice,” because I hoped she would be clingy and affectionate. I bought her from a pet store.

Originally, my mom and I wanted to get a male cat (probably because my mom thinks male animals are more attractive). Nuomi and an orange tabby were from the same litter—the tabby was a little brother. But I thought Nuomi was just too cute, super lively, and my mom was also charmed by her. So, we thought, why not a female cat? And we happily brought her home.

Warning: Lots of photos ahead!

(The photos are a bit blurry, haha.)

On the way home, my mom and I carried a big bag of cat litter and a litter box, while I held the cat carrier. It was a struggle (ಥ_ಥ). I won’t mention that we didn’t tell my dad about our new family member because he finds pets troublesome (๑•ี_เ•ี๑)… But eventually, he had to come pick us up.

This was on the way home—around March.

Once we got home, she started exploring her new environment.

She was fearless!

Climbing onto my computer—was she trying to show off?

At first, I thought she was just a soft and adorable little kitten.

But after she got comfortable, I realized she’s a little maniac.

Especially in the mornings, she runs around the house like crazy. If you try to approach her, she hides, wanting to play hide-and-seek…

No corner of the house is safe. She’s like a feather duster, crawling under the sofa, cabinets, and even the washing machine. My mom was so annoyed that our beautiful British Shorthair turned into a gray cat… (ಥ_ಥ) She wanted to bathe her every day.

But bathing her… is a nightmare.

After trying to bathe her at home once, we’ve been taking her to the pet store ever since.

When she gets a bath, it’s like this:

“Who am I??? Where am I?!! What are you doing to me!!! Meow meow meow!!!”

At home, she destroyed the magnolia flowers my mom bought for the New Year.

I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.

Oh no, posting so many unflattering photos is going to make my master angry!

But sometimes, she can pretend to be a little lady.

Who says she’s not pretty? She’s gorgeous!

My sister takes photos of me!

You think she’s like this? Hah, when she sleeps, she’s like this:

And sometimes in these ridiculous poses:

“Mom! Someone’s posting my bed photos!”

(Evil laugh)

Using the poop scooper as a pillow.

In short, since Nuomi came into our lives, the house has been filled with laughter.

It feels like having a second child at home—I’ve lost my status as the favorite, wahhh.

Even my dad, who initially found her annoying, now can’t put her down.

And my mom treats Nuomi like a queen—feeding her the best food and drinks. All Nuomi has to do is be cute.
