Life with Cat: How a Cat Transformed My Lonely Days into a Home

Life with Cat: How a Cat Transformed My Lonely Days into a Home

Introduction

After starting work, I found myself in a tough spot. Without classmates around and with friends resigning one after another, most of my colleagues were in their forties or fifties. The work pressure was immense, and my mental state was deteriorating. I constantly thought about quitting. Last year during Labor Day, my parents visited and heard about the severe rodent problem where I lived. My dad casually said, “You could get a cat.” It was like a lightbulb moment. Growing up, my parents never liked pets, but now that I had the means, why not take the leap?

1. The First Meeting

On the afternoon of May 4th, I rushed to the Xianyang Airport cargo area right after work. On the way back, the little guy kept meowing, probably scared, but he seemed full of energy despite the long flight. Online articles said kittens usually need an adjustment period in a new home, but this is what happened:

Like this…

And this…

And this (how long has it been since these shoes were washed? They smell awful)…

And this…

And even this…

After inspecting his new territory, the little guy started playing with a ball. Weren’t kittens supposed to be shy and timid? Why was this one a bold little troublemaker? This wasn’t what I signed up for!

Oops, wrong expression…

Well, it’s not like I could return him after bringing him home, right?

After a few hours of chaos, the little master finally fell asleep.

I thought the first night would pass peacefully (spoiler: it didn’t). In the middle of the night, I felt something furry and warm against my back—yes, the little master had crawled into my bed (/∇*). I was secretly happy; at least he liked me on the first day (though this was the only time he ever did that).

2. Ear Cleaning

On the third day, I took him for a checkup. Everything was normal except for a mild case of ear mites, so we began a week-long ear-cleaning routine.

He looks pitiful here, but his claws were merciless. My hands and arms were covered in scratches.

3. Sleeping Positions

Mao’s sleeping positions are… unique. Sometimes he’s adorable…

Sometimes he’s like this (flying?)…

Sometimes like this…

And sometimes like this…

Even a bit sassy…

Or completely sprawled out…

Compare this…

Yep, exactly the same.

4. How a Fat Cat is Made

Starting from four months old, his weight skyrocketed. He used to look like this…

And this…

And this…

Even like this…

But this slim little guy gradually turned into this…

And now he looks like this (/∇*).

5. Conclusion

Although he’s mischievous—digging through the trash, drinking from my cup, breaking glasses, and turning the room upside down like a Husky when I’m away—he’s given this single dog a sense of home in an unfamiliar city. Every day, I come home to a little cutie waiting for me.
