Life with Fugui: A Joyful and Energetic Furry Companion Who Brightens Every Day

Hmm… what’s it like? Every day after work, he waits at the door, jumping around excitedly. When I make cat food, he jumps around. He sleeps beside me, wakes up, and jumps around. After eating, he jumps around. When he sees snacks, he jumps around.

Fugui came home on October 5th last year. I struggled for a long time to choose a name. The cats of friends around me were either named Lucky, Huahua, or Nannan. I didn’t want an English name or a repetitive name… Then one day, I thought of “Fugui Youyu” (wealth and abundance, with fish). So, I named him Fugui, hoping for a prosperous and healthy life for both of us.

Since it was my first time raising a cat, I did a lot of research and asked many people before bringing him home. I prepared this and that. He needs a cat bed? Buy! He must have a cat bowl? Buy! I heard water from a fountain is cleaner? Buy! Cats need toys? Buy! This thing seems useless but it’s for cats? Buy! (Continued irrational shopping…)

On the first day home, he wasn’t shy at all. Unlike many cats who hide under the bed, he sniffed around, explored everywhere, and purred nonstop. Oh my god, I have a cat! Oh my god, he moves! Oh my god, why did he pee on the bed?!

PS: This cat bed is now my floor cushion. He has never slept in it since I bought it…

While at work: How is Fugui doing at home alone? Did he eat? Did he drink water? What is he doing…?

Around the third day, Fugui could already jump onto the bed. He was still curious, kneading on my blanket, purring around my face like a tractor. After that, for about half a month, he would wake me up at 3 a.m. every night by stepping on my face, demanding I play with him. At first, I responded, but later I just pretended to be dead. After half a month of “night shifts,” Fugui gave up… Since then, he rarely causes trouble at night and has switched to “morning shifts.”
