I am not qualified to say how all Border Collie breeds are, but I can talk about some behaviors and situations of our dog.
Our Border Collie is called Carry, a little girl. The name was given by her first owner. I should be the fourth owner (I know that there were three owners before, and I don’t know if there were any that they didn’t tell me. In short, my big fat dog’s childhood experience was not very good). She came to our home in early 2017, and was already eight months old. I have raised other dogs before, but this dog gave me a different feeling when she first came. It seemed that she could understand what we were saying, and her two small eyes rolled around. She must have known that I would be her owner in the future, so she would deliberately try to please me, actively stretch her head to ask for touch, and actively show her belly (people who have raised dogs should know that this is a dog’s way of showing goodwill or weakness). Especially after her previous owner left, she sat in the corner without barking or making a fuss and looked at me, and took the initiative to come over to shake hands with me, as if to say please give me more advice in the future. These are obviously her reactions after thinking and judging. It can be said that she is very smart, or as the questioner said, very scheming, but now I think about it and feel very distressed. God knows if little carry was so well-behaved when she experienced the first few separations from her owner and adapted to the new owner, and whether she also tried so hard to get good treatment for herself.

Little arrogant~
The following days also had a process of mutual adaptation, which was quite long, and we will continue slowly later. In short, Carry was still young at that time, and she had a lot of energy. She had to spend a lot of time going out to play every day. If she didn’t go out, she would try all kinds of ways to go out.
The first thing she could think of was to open the door by herself. The door lock at home had a long handle, so it was too easy for Carry to open the door. However, this dog was smart because she didn’t go out directly after opening the door. She knew that doing so would easily make me angry, so she threw the toy out, came back to the bedroom to call me, and went out with her to pick up the toy, and then… ran to the stairwell… (Because there would be children who were afraid of her in the elevator, we basically never took the elevator)
Later, she found that the success rate seemed to be a little small, so she started her performance. The performance started with pretending to pee, first attracting my attention, and then squatting on the ground (bitches don’t cross their legs…). The success rate was very high. Generally, I would definitely run away with her when I saw it, but… The carnival began~ Later, she learned to pretend to be sick. Once, she was walking at home and one of her legs became lame. I quickly carried her to the pet hospital downstairs. As soon as she got downstairs, she jumped down and let herself go. There was no problem.
After she became more familiar with me, she began to protest and whined at me, learning the same sound as a husky, saying that she wanted to go out.
In short, she really would think of various ways to buy herself time to play. She is really a clever
ghost. She also has a clever beauty mole~
It can be said that Border Collies are clever and scheming. It is true, but I don’t think that it is true that she only thinks about herself. It may also be because there is a little girl in our family. She is actually very well-behaved and sensible.
When she was more than one year old, we picked up her sister while walking in the park one morning. She was a small local dog named Zhizhi. When we picked her up, she hadn’t opened her eyes yet. She must have just been born. It was also because of carry’s insistence that we brought Zhizhi home. But because the puppy was very small, it kept barking every night and was very noisy. Whenever this happened, carry would show his teeth at the puppy to scare her so that she would not disturb our sleep. It is still very warm to think about it now.
Look carefully at our necks, this is where the puppy sleeps~
When the puppy grows up a little, it starts to destroy the house, often rummaging through the trash can and biting the sofa. Carry will also watch her and discipline her, a warm-hearted big baby~
So, Border Collies do have their own little thoughts and tricks, and will think of many ways to fight for their own interests, but if it involves the interests of the owner, they can actually be a loyal guard, at least, our big fat one is like this~ (Carry has obviously started to gain weight this year, already 50 kilograms…) Another
thing to add, my wife is pregnant recently, and big Carry behaves more like a qualified sister. He likes to put his chin on his legs or on the sofa to look at his belly when he has nothing to do, and he can look at it for a long time without moving…
I just like to watch Jingjing quietly (my wife’s name is Jingjing…)
The key is that she has taught the little dog Zhizhi to be very smart. For example, when my wife gets up at night, Zhizhi will be particularly alert and always accompany my wife to the toilet. He will sit at the door and wait obediently. After coming back, he will wait until my wife lies down before pushing carry out of the nest and continue to sleep O(∩_∩)O
