Additional Appearance Standards for Selecting British Shorthair Blue and White Cats as Pets

Second: A Round Face

This is also determined according to the needs of customers. Isn’t a chubby, fluffy, and plump body the ultimate cute creature in everyone’s mind?

Perhaps this is also the reason why our predecessors chose to breed the Blue and White color division within British Shorthair cats. This is just my personal speculation. In fact, there should be many types of cats with the gene for the “eight-shaped” face color division. I can’t really explain it clearly because when I search on Baidu, many of the cats shown are all kinds of mixed-breed cats. Sometimes, 田园 cats (local cats) also have an “eight-shaped” face, but the feeling is different. The temperaments of cats with a pointed face and a round face are completely different. A pointed face looks sharp, while a big round face is gentle and sweet. This is beyond doubt.

Then, based on the above, let’s compare a group of Blue and White cats with pink noses but different face shapes.

Although these two Blue and White cats are from different periods, don’t pay too much attention to these details. The key is that you can understand the main point. The round face is cuter, right? Regarding the roundness of the round face, you can refer to the standards of Blue cats! Here, I would like to explain that for Blue and White cats, I don’t think how big the cheeks can develop is particularly important. Although pure blue male cats pursue a mighty and majestic look, in my opinion, it seems a bit out of place for Blue and White cats. Well, this depends on personal preference.

Here is a comparison:

If the face is too fat and the cheeks are too big, it will look greasy. Too much of something is as bad as too little.

Third: The Color Division Should Not Look Dirty

After looking at the above 几组 (several groups of) comparisons, I believe you have a general feeling. You can also search for more pictures online and compare them. This point is meaningless for Blue cats because Blue cats are mainly evaluated based on their body shape, and their color is gray, which has a relatively unified standard. However, Blue and White cats are different. Since there is color division, there are many differences. Currently, there are terms like “symmetrical ‘eight’ shape”, “Van pattern”, and also descriptions like “continuous back color” and “white collar”. I think each has its own aesthetic perspective, but no matter which one, I think the key is: it should be relatively symmetrical! It can’t be too patchy!

If it’s too patchy, it will look a bit dirty, which may be quite uncomfortable for Virgos!

Why do I say it should be relatively symmetrical? Because it’s too difficult to insist that it must be exactly the same on both sides. After all, it’s uncontrollable by nature. But through subsequent observation, basically, those that are relatively symmetrical look more beautiful, whether it’s the first impression or long-term observation. Of course, some special combinations are also very beautiful, such as having a heart shape on the back or a letter shape, etc. These special ones are also very nice.

The face doesn’t have to be in a perfect “eight” shape. It can also be in the shape of a maple leaf or like bangs, etc. But generally speaking, a color division that is relatively symmetrical and not too patchy is more harmonious and beautiful. The requirement for symmetry is higher for the face. It’s okay if the body is a bit patchy, just like a cow-patterned cat, which is not ugly either.

Fourth: A Round Body Shape

Why do I put this point last? Because it can be said that the fur volume and bone mass of most Blue and White cats are not as good as those of pure Blue cats. You can observe that this is more obvious in Van pattern cats. Of course, there are a small number of top-quality ones that are white, round, and have thick bones. But let’s not discuss those because they are no longer at the pet level. It would be a pity to have them sterilized. So, personally, I don’t think you should worry too much about the body shape of Blue and White cats. You can use Blue cats as a standard and evaluate them based on the orientation of having a short body, short legs, and a thick, short tail. Why? Because it makes them cuter, right? Of course, some people may not understand the charm of short-legged cats and Corgis. This depends on personal preference.
