Wow! I really didn’t expect that my Siamese cat, Baojie, would receive over a thousand likes online just because she turned as black as a “coal ball.” This unexpected situation left me in a dilemma, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Seeing everyone’s love for her, I’m filled with emotions. On behalf of Baojie, I sincerely thank you all! I originally planned to share more photos to fully showcase Baojie’s unique charm of being “dark-skinned, beautiful, and having long legs,” but unfortunately, the platform’s photo function is undergoing an upgrade, and I can’t add any pictures for now. What a pity! However, I have to tell you a little secret. Baojie isn’t completely black yet. There’s still a circle of white fur around her neck, as if stubbornly holding onto the last bit of “whiteness.” Once the photo upload function is back, I’ll definitely let you all see it with your own eyes!
Many people are curious whether Baojie can turn white again. To find the answer, I’ve done a lot of research. I consulted several veterinarians and scoured the internet, but the results were disappointing. It’s highly likely that she won’t be able to return to her former whiteness. I even had the crazy idea of shaving her fur, thinking that maybe the new hair would grow back white. But when I searched for “shaving Siamese cats” online and saw those cases, I realized how naive my idea was. It was quite a “surprise” (more like a shock)! So, if any of you have ways to make her a little whiter, please share them with me. I’d be extremely grateful!

The story of my fate with Baojie goes back a long time. When I decided to adopt a Siamese cat, I did a lot of preparation before bringing her home. I read countless answers on Zhihu and knew that many Siamese cats would “darken” as they grew up. But somehow, I was overly confident and firmly believed that my Siamese cat wouldn’t follow that path.
The day I brought Baojie home, I was filled with joy and anticipation. Her first winter was spent in Beijing. To keep her warm, I tried every possible method. In the cold winter, I made sure she slept next to the heater and dressed her in various small clothes. Every time I opened the window for ventilation and saw her standing on the windowsill, enjoying the breeze, I was so worried that I quickly covered her with a small blanket. With great effort, we got through that winter in Beijing, and at that time, she was still the adorable “fair-skinned, beautiful, and long-legged” cat.
When we left Beijing for Hangzhou, I was relieved that Baojie had survived the cold winter without any problems. Little did I know that summer would be a real “nightmare.” In Hangzhou, the summer heat is unbearable without air conditioning. To stay comfortable, I kept the air conditioner on all summer, thinking Baojie would also enjoy the coolness and wouldn’t have any discomfort due to the hot weather. However, reality hit me hard! Everyone said that Siamese cats’ fur would lighten in summer due to the high temperature, but instead of getting lighter, Baojie started to “darken.” Looking at her changed appearance, I could hardly believe my eyes. Was this really the same cute kitten I brought home? I was so sad during that time that I couldn’t help but feel heartbroken.
From the second year on, I gradually gave up the hope of keeping Baojie white. And Baojie, as if free from constraints, continued to get darker and darker. When we returned to Beijing in the winter of the third year, she was already very different from her former self. Now, although Baojie has become a complete “dark girl,” in my heart, her cuteness and charm remain unchanged. As long as she’s happy and healthy, no matter what she looks like, she’ll always be my dearest Baojie and an indispensable part of my life. In the future, I want to continue accompanying her, recording more of her interesting moments, and hopefully, a miracle will happen and her fur color will change a little bit.
