Two years ago, filled with love for cats, I eagerly looked forward to raising a long – haired, light – colored cat, and I only planned to have one. After half a month of searching online and in pet markets, fate played a wonderful joke on me – I somehow brought home two Siamese cats. I still remember what the pet store owner said, “Take both of them. They’ve never been separated before, and I’ll give you a good deal.” Thinking that I was often away from home and the two cats could keep each other company, I readily agreed. However, when I took them to the hospital, I realized that the cost of keeping cats was far from “cheap.” I also want to remind those who are planning to keep cats to learn how to identify whether kittens are healthy and clarify how many days the seller can guarantee after taking them home.
When I first brought Chaochao and Mumu home, their tiny bodies were full of curiosity and timidity. After a few days of adaptation, I took them to the hospital for a physical examination. As a first – time cat owner, I had no experience at that time. The doctor said that Mumu, the younger sister, had inflammation in her body and was also having a runny nose, so we had to do a blood test for feline herpesvirus. During that period, I frequently shuttled between home and the hospital, starting a long “hospital journey.” Fortunately, they were so small and cute that I could easily put them in my pocket when going to the hospital. While waiting for the test results, they would sleep peacefully beside me. Their lovely appearance made everyone who saw them feel affectionate. From then on, it was obvious that Mumu’s face was smaller than Chaochao’s, and this characteristic remained as they grew up.

These two little guys have brought countless joys to my life. They are not only well – behaved but also extremely clingy. When I take them out for skewers, they sit quietly on the stool, waiting for me without making any noise. Their cute appearance often attracts the loving gazes of surrounding customers. What’s more interesting is that they are not afraid of going out at all, and I can even take them for walks. Every time we go out, they are like brave little explorers. Not only are they not afraid of the outside world, but they also go to “provoke” dogs. Their imposing manner is really amusing. I remember once taking them to see the ginkgo trees. They played among the golden ginkgo leaves, and the children around were attracted and followed them all the way. The scene was very heartwarming.
Naming them was quite a process. Originally, I only planned to have one cat and wanted to name it “Nanbei” (meaning north and south). But with two cats, naming the other one “Dongxi” (meaning east and west) didn’t seem right. After much deliberation, I finally decided to name the younger brother Chaochao and the younger sister Mumu, hoping that they could accompany each other day and night and also symbolizing that our life is full of poetry.
As time passed, winter came quietly, and I was surprised to find that Chaochao and Mumu started to turn dark gradually. Although I had known that Siamese cats change color due to temperature changes, when it actually happened to my own cats, I was still shocked and filled with worry. However, even though their fur color gradually darkened, in my eyes, they were still the cutest treasures. They accompany me every day. When sleeping, they must snuggle up to me, as if I were their warmest haven. When I go to pick up express deliveries, they follow closely. On sunny spring days, they accompany me to sunbathe. Even when I take a shower, they stay by my side. Their clinginess makes me feel touched and amused at the same time.
Now, Chaochao and Mumu are already two years old. Watching them grow from tiny, soft kittens into lively, lovely, and full – of – personality cats, and recalling every bit of our time together, my heart is filled with happiness and warmth. Although they have turned dark, so what? They have long become an indispensable part of my life and my most precious family members. In the days to come, I look forward to continuing to accompany them, spending more wonderful times together, and writing more warm and interesting stories between us.
