In my home, there is a very special “family member” – a Siamese cat named Girl. She always does things that make people laugh. For example, she actually likes to “tan” under the air conditioner. Such a unique hobby probably only belongs to her.
The other day, during a break from work, I went to the living room to get a drink. As soon as I turned my head, I saw Girl lying comfortably under the air conditioner, enjoying the cool breeze. She looked as if she was having a special “tanning ceremony.” When she saw me, she immediately put on a dissatisfied expression. Her eyes seemed to say, “Every time I let you work, you have to go get a drink,” as if my drinking water was delaying my service to her. Being stared at like that, I quickly swallowed and hurried back to my desk to continue working.
The story of Girl coming into my life began in early 2016. At that time, I saw in my WeChat Moments that someone I had only had a brief work interaction with couldn’t keep cats anymore due to rhinitis and was looking for new owners for the two cats at home. I happened to want a cat at that time, and without thinking too much about our unfamiliarity, I immediately sent a WeChat message to sign up. After some communication and answering the previous owner’s questions, I was lucky enough to become Girl’s new owner. The previous owner sent me several photos of Girl. In the photos, although she already showed some signs of “darkening,” she was still a light grayish – brown color, looking very cute.
However, at that time, I knew nothing about Siamese cats. I didn’t know that Girl’s color would change, nor did I realize that the photos the previous owner sent were of her when she was a kitten. So, when I brought Girl home and saw this kitten with a somewhat dark color, I was filled with doubts: “Is this really the cat in the photo?” But soon, the sense of responsibility, pride, and happiness as a cat owner dispelled all my doubts. I happily started my life of raising a cat, or rather, serving this “cat master.”
During that period, my WeChat Moments was full of Girl. I happily went to make a leather bell for her, eagerly expecting how cute she would look wearing it. However, due to lack of experience, I made the bell too big. When I put the bell on Girl, she gave me a look of disgust. That look seemed to say I was so clumsy. This was the first time I received her “roll of the eyes,” and it still makes me laugh when I think about it.
As time went by, I gradually realized that raising a Siamese cat is like raising a baby – they change every day. From the somewhat dark – colored appearance when she first arrived, Girl gradually became darker and darker. Her once light grayish – brown fur was gradually covered by darker colors, evolving from a state of “darkening for fun” to “darkening seriously.” But no matter how her fur color changes, in my eyes, she is always the cute kitten that made me so happy when she first came home.
Girl’s presence has added countless joys and warmth to my life. Every expression and every action of hers touches my heart. Although she can be naughty sometimes and “scold” me with a dissatisfied look, it is these daily moments that form our unique memories. I’m very glad to have met her, and I look forward to continuing to accompany her in the future, witnessing more of her growth moments. No matter whether she is dark or light, she will always be my beloved Girl.
