During the National Day holiday, my friend went back to his hometown and asked me to take care of his cats for a few days. Among them was a Siamese cat named Obama, and let me tell you, he was incredibly handsome. I couldn’t stop taking pictures of him throughout the day. When he was asleep, he looked like a pile of soft, shapeless mud. After that National Day, I fell head over heels in love with Siamese cats and was determined to have one of my own.
At that time, I already had a cat at home, named Chandler. Since I wanted to find a companion for him, I decided to bring another cat into our lives. As a die – hard fan of “Friends”, naming my cats after the characters from the show was a no – brainer. So, the journey to find a new feline friend began.
I went to the previous owner’s house to choose a cat. Among a litter of kittens, I picked the naughtiest one. Now, looking back, I can barely tell which one he was from the photos taken at that time. When I brought him home, he was only about a month old and as small as the palm of my hand. Initially, I was really worried. I was afraid that he was too young and I might not be able to take good care of him. The pressure was intense. However, to my surprise, as soon as he arrived at his new home, he started eating and using the litter box without any hesitation. He showed no fear of the unfamiliar environment at all, which was such a relief.

There was a little episode during the process of getting a cat. Before choosing Joey, I saw an extremely beautiful light – colored tabby Siamese. Right after buying it, I took it to the pet hospital for a physical examination, and unfortunately, it was found to have the coronavirus. Although many cats carry this virus and it’s usually harmless if it doesn’t mutate, the virus is contagious. After much deliberation, I decided to return it. After all, I couldn’t put my original cat Chandler at risk. Chandler didn’t have the coronavirus, and I didn’t want him to be exposed to it. This decision led to some unpleasantness with the seller of that cat. But as they say, everything happens for a reason. Because of this, I eventually got Joey.
Joey has brought so much joy to our lives. He has a boundless amount of energy and is always full of curiosity. He loves to explore every corner of the house, getting into all sorts of mischief. Sometimes, he and Chandler would have little spats, but it’s all part of the fun of having two cats. They also have their sweet moments, like when they curl up together for a nap.
For those of you who are planning to bring a new cat into your home, especially if you already have an existing cat like I did, please remember to take the new cat for a thorough health check first. This is not only responsible for the new cat but also for your beloved original pet. By doing so, you can ensure that both cats can live a healthy and happy life together. And if you don’t have an original cat at home, even if the new cat has the coronavirus, don’t worry too much. The probability of it developing into a serious illness is very low. Just shower it with love and care, and it will surely bring you countless beautiful memories.
In conclusion, my experience with Siamese cats has been a wonderful and eventful journey. From the first encounter with Obama to the adoption of Joey, each step has been filled with surprises, joys, and a few challenges. I’m so grateful to have these furry friends in my life, and I look forward to creating more precious memories with them in the future.
