In life, there are moments when fate seems to intervene in the most unexpected ways. Such was the case when Summer entered my world. I had just graduated, burdened with the responsibilities of four furry friends at home, and my finances were far from abundant. The thought of taking in another pet seemed daunting, but destiny had other plans.
I casually mentioned my situation to a friend, only to learn that Summer, this adorable little creature, had been unwanted by her original owner and had already been passed around several households. As soon as I heard her story, a tug at my heartstrings told me that I couldn’t turn a blind eye. Despite my initial hesitation, I decided to bring her home. After all, what’s one more when it comes to the love of animals?
The first few days after Summer arrived were a period of adjustment for everyone. As expected, she needed time to acclimatize to her new surroundings. My other cat, Zhima, was quite displeased with the new addition. For three whole days, except for when it was time to relieve itself or eat, Zhima refused to leave the washing machine. It was as if the washing machine had become its sanctuary from this new intruder.

Tangyuan, another member of our pet family, seemed to see Summer as a new playmate, or perhaps a rival. They engaged in daily “PKs,” running around the house, chasing each other, and creating a ruckus. It was both chaotic and endearing to watch their interactions.
Summer, on the other hand, had her own unique way of adapting. She loved to soak up the warm sunlight, often found napping on the cold ground. Every day, when I left home to study and returned, there she would be, a little bundle of excitement waiting eagerly by the door. As soon as I opened the door, she would scramble up my leg and onto my shoulder, showering me with affection. It was the most heartwarming welcome I could ever ask for.
As time went by, Summer started to grow and change. She entered the stage of teething, and it was both a fascinating and a bit of a challenging time. She would chew on anything she could get her little teeth on, but we managed to get through it together. There were also those precious moments when we would cuddle up and fall asleep in each other’s embrace, creating memories that I will cherish forever.
One of the funniest incidents was when Summer discovered my stash of AD calcium milk. She seemed to have an uncanny ability to sense the delicious drink. She would pester me relentlessly, meowing and pawing at me until I opened one for her. It was impossible to resist her cute little face.
Looking at my little family of pets, with Summer now an integral part of it, my heart is filled with warmth and gratitude. Every morning, they line up at the bedside, and it’s as if they are my own personal alarm clocks, waking me up with their affectionate nudges and meows. I no longer need a traditional alarm clock, for the love and presence of my furry friends are enough to start my day on a beautiful note.
I sincerely hope that they will all stay healthy and happy. They have brought so much joy and love into my life, and I am grateful for every moment spent with them. Summer’s arrival may have been unexpected, but she has truly become a precious gift, enriching our lives in ways I could never have imagined.
