I have always been fascinated by Siamese cats, and I couldn’t wait to share my enthusiasm with my mom. When my mom’s classmate, Uncle X, mentioned that he had Siamese cats for sale, we were both overjoyed. We envisioned a cozy, clean environment filled with adorable kittens, just waiting to find their forever homes. However, our excitement quickly turned to shock when we arrived at Uncle X’s place.
What greeted us was a scene that was far from our expectations. The first floor of his villa was filled with cages upon cages, each housing various cats. The conditions were appalling. The air was thick with an unpleasant smell, and the cats seemed stressed and uncomfortable. Despite the disheartening environment, my eyes were immediately drawn to a tiny, delicate Siamese kitten. I just couldn’t leave without her, so we decided to bring her home and named her Danjuan.

When we first brought Danjuan home, she was incredibly small, weighing less than 0.6 kilograms. Uncle X had claimed that she was three months old, but she looked more like a one – or two – month – old kitten, so frail and timid. She hardly made a sound, as if she was too scared to even meow.
Upon closer inspection, we discovered that Danjuan had some serious health issues. She had a severe case of ear mites, and her eyes were constantly red. No matter how much we used eye drops to treat one eye, the other would soon turn red again, and the problem persisted. Additionally, she often took sudden, loud gasps of air, which was quite concerning.
Our first encounter with Danjuan’s quirks came when she “greeted” us by leaving her mark on both my bed and the sofa. In a flurry, we quickly changed and washed the sheets and sofa cushions, and then, following the advice of others, we placed the urine – soaked paper in the litter box. To our relief, after a short while, Danjuan found her way to the litter box on her own. We suspected that she wasn’t unfamiliar with using the litter box but was simply too frightened in the new environment to know where to go.
As the days passed and Danjuan began to feel more at home, her true personality emerged. She transformed from a shy, timid kitten into a lively, energetic little princess. She insisted on sleeping in the bed with us. If we tried to keep her out, she would cry at the door, her meows becoming so hoarse that it was impossible to resist her. She was always on the move, following us everywhere we went in the house. It was heart – warming to watch her grow stronger. From struggling to climb onto the sofa, she had now mastered the ability to leap onto the TV cabinet with ease.
Despite her initial health problems, Danjuan was gradually getting better. We took her to the vet regularly. On July 12th, we brought her home, and 22 days later, significant progress had been made. We had her vaccinated and treated for ear mites. Her weight, which was a mere 0.6 kilograms when we first got her, had now increased to 1.45 kilograms. It was such a joy to see her thriving.
Danjuan has brought so much life and love into our home. She has taught us the meaning of patience and perseverance. Even though we had to go through a rough start with her health issues and the less – than – ideal adoption situation, every moment spent taking care of her and watching her grow has been worth it. We look forward to many more years of happiness with our beloved Siamese cat, Danjuan, and are excited to see all the new adventures and growth that lie ahead for her.
