Since I was young, I have had an unwavering love for cats. The moment I laid eyes on these adorable furry creatures, I was smitten. During the pandemic, when I was stuck at home, I spent countless hours scrolling through pet videos on Douyin. The more I watched, the more I yearned to have a cat of my own. Day in and day out, I pestered my partner, expressing my deep desire for a feline companion. Eventually, we decided to visit pet stores.
At the pet stores, we were greeted with a variety of beautiful cats. The Ragdolls were stunning, but their high price tag was a major deterrent, especially considering we were both students with limited budgets. I was torn between getting a British Shorthair Silver or a Siamese. Later, I also found American Shorthairs appealing. I joined several cat – related groups, where I bombarded members with questions. One kind – hearted girl told me that her friend’s American Shorthair was about to give birth and asked if I was interested. It was April at the time, and I inquired about the due date. She said she would ask for me and later informed me that it was likely to be around May. I thought it was a bit of a long wait. Noticing her online name, “The Owner of 7 Siamese Cats,” I was in awe. I started asking her about her Siamese cats. Soon after, we had a video call, and since she was local, we arranged to meet on Saturday to see the cats.

It was only Tuesday when I told my partner about it. Concerned about my safety visiting a stranger’s home alone, he offered to accompany me on Saturday. The girl informed us that her cat had given birth to 5 Siamese kittens, 2 males and 3 females. One female had already been sold, leaving 2 males and 2 females available. When I checked again on Wednesday, she said that someone who lived nearby had come over after just a brief conversation and bought the 2 male kittens. Now, only 2 females were left. Worried that I might miss out if I waited until Saturday, I secretly took a bus for over an hour to her place without telling my partner.
Before that, the only Siamese cat I had seen was in a cat café, and it was rather aloof and ignored me. But this time, I was greeted by a sight of multiple Siamese cats. Their color was different from ordinary cats, a beautiful milk – tea shade. The mother cat was walking in front, followed by three kittens (the sold – out male kitten hadn’t been picked up yet). So, there were only two female kittens for me to choose from. I had really taken a liking to one of the male kittens earlier as it was extremely lively and affectionate. The two female kittens were sleeping nearby. Only that male kitten played with me. One of the female kittens was very quiet, while the other one seemed to be in a cycle of sleeping, playing, and eating. They all looked so similar, and I was in a real dilemma. After much deliberation, I finally chose my Snow Tea. Yes, it was the one with a big appetite. Every now and then, she would wake up from her nap, run down to eat some cat food, and then go back to sleep. I thought she had a healthy appetite, which meant she was in good health. It was such a simple – minded thought, but it was the reason I chose her.
As I brought Snow Tea home, I knew our journey together had just begun. Little did I know that this curious, lively, and affectionate Siamese cat would bring so much joy and warmth to my life. From that day forward, every moment with her has been a precious memory, whether it’s her exploring every nook and cranny of the house out of curiosity or her snuggling up to me when she wants affection. She has truly become an irreplaceable part of my life, and I can’t wait to create more wonderful memories with my dear Snow Tea.
