Our Cat's New Life Adventures

Our Cat’s New Life Adventures

Moving into a new home brought about a significant change in our feline friend’s living arrangements. No longer did it have a separate little room. The rule of not allowing it into the bedroom was completely overturned, and now it even sleeps in our bed at midnight. It seems that this is its way of seeking security in the new environment. My husband, who used to dislike cats because he thought they were dirty, difficult to take care of, and might scratch him, has had a complete change of heart. Before moving, he constantly urged me to give the cat away. However, once we settled in the new place, he made a cozy little nest for our cat. His thoughtfulness even surpassed mine, and as a result, the cat has become extremely attached to him.

Every night before we go to bed, we place the cat beside its nest. It dives right in and doesn’t come out all night. Even when we wake up the next morning, it’s still sound asleep, showing just how much it loves to sleep. When we first moved in and didn’t have the little nest yet, I woke up in the middle of the night to find it staring at me. It was a bit of a shock at first!

Our cat is really smart. When it’s hungry, it finds a sausage and brings it to my husband, holding it in its mouth, clearly asking him to open it. One time, we forgot to bring the small scissors for trimming its nails, so we had to use the big scissors instead. As soon as it saw the big scissors, it backed away in fear.

It’s also incredibly greedy. Whenever I’m frying an egg, it tries its best to jump up and snatch a bite. It’s quite a sight to see it jumping around in excitement.

The first time we took it out during the day was when we were on our way to get it vaccinated. It was so curious about all the new things it saw outside. There was an amusing incident at the vet’s office. The receptionist asked me whether our cat was a boy or a girl. I replied that I used to think it was a boy, but then I noticed it didn’t have testicles, so I assumed it was a girl. The vet took a look and explained that it was a male cat, and male cats usually develop testicles around seven months old. It was quite an embarrassing and educational moment for me!

On weekends, when we wake it up, it immediately scurries from its little nest onto our bed. It loves being close to us and is always looking for warmth and affection.

In July, our cat made an adventurous journey from Qingdao to Jinan all by itself, or rather, it was sent home by Didi. During the journey, it made such a ruckus that it almost drove the driver crazy. As soon as it arrived home, within half a day, it scratched my husband’s leg. The wound took many days to heal, and he had an allergic reaction, with the area itching constantly. He kept pestering me to get rid of the cat, but gradually, as he spent more time with it, his attitude softened.

Our cat is small but extremely clingy. It has a finicky appetite and doesn’t like cat food at all. Its favorites are ham and meat. As it grows, it’s becoming more and more noticeable. It’s about three months old now. Sometimes when we take it out for a stroll at night, people often mistake it for a dog. Once, an old lady said, “Look, that dog looks like a cat.” I had to correct her and say, “No, it’s actually a cat.”

Bathing our cat is always a struggle. It kicks up a fuss every time. But strangely, whenever it sees me taking a shower, it wants to come closer, as if it’s intrigued by the whole process. It has a characteristic look with furrowed eyebrows, and my husband always jokes that it looks just like me.

Our cat has truly become an integral part of our family. Its antics, its growth, and its unique personality bring us endless joy and laughter every day. Whether it’s the silly things it does, like trying to steal food or its funny reactions to new situations, we can’t imagine our lives without this little bundle of energy. It has not only changed our living space but also our hearts, making our new home feel even more like a warm and loving place.
