I couldn’t fall asleep in the middle of the night, so I decided to reserve a space to write about my cat first and planned to come back to it when I had time the next day.
My cat, Dangwu, isn’t as pretty as the cats in other answers. He has a rather dark coat even though he’s still young, but I love him deeply.
I reserved the space to write on June 17th, 2016, and it’s only now that I’m getting around to it. My procrastination is truly outrageous… But I think at that time, since I had just started raising a cat, I wouldn’t have been able to write much about the experience anyway (I’m just making excuses for myself).
Now, he has been with me at home for two and a half years. It’s about time I wrote something down to keep as a memento.
Let’s start with a photo~~~~~~
My first cat is a traditional Siamese cat named Dangwu. The name comes from an experience during the Qingming Festival in 2016. I went to a neighboring city to relax with my then-boyfriend (now my husband) because I had just been diagnosed with depression and wanted to get a cat. He came up with many names like Newton, Gauss, Cauchy, Lagrange, Leibniz… but I rejected all of them. Then he thought of some names that were like “couple names” such as “Chuhe Ridangwu” (from a Chinese poem), “Qingming Shanghetu” (a famous Chinese painting), “Hematopoietic Stem Cells”, etc., because we both thought we wouldn’t just have one cat in the future.

Then I chose “Dangwu” and “Chuhe”.
On April 4th, 2016, it seemed to be raining. We planned to just stroll around the area where there were many pet stores. I walked into a pet store while talking on the phone with @Chize. He said, “Don’t buy a Siamese cat. They are naughty and talkative.” I readily agreed, saying, “No, no, I won’t.”
Then, in a blink of an eye, I saw Dangwu alone in the cage. He was small, with slender limbs. His black face and blue eyes actually looked quite nice… He was desperately acting cute towards me and rubbing against the cage. The more I looked at him, the more reluctant I was to leave him behind. In the end, I chose this little guy.
Every time I think about it later, I feel like I must have been bewitched. Otherwise, why would I have chosen such an “ugly” thing (:з)∠)
Also, at that time, I really knew nothing about cats! I had no idea what a cattery was. I was tricked by the pet store owner. He made me spend 100 yuan to test for feline panleukopenia. It was bad enough that a feline panleukopenia test strip on Taobao costs less than 30 yuan, and it can’t even detect the virus during the incubation period. What’s more, he lied to me that Dangwu was only three months old.
I’m already very lucky that Dangwu wasn’t a “week-old cat” (a cat that gets sick and dies soon after being bought). In short, I urge everyone to choose a regular cattery when buying a cat.
When I got home and looked at Dangwu’s round and plump testicles, even a fool could tell that something was wrong…
In fact, this guy was already six months old…
I guess it might be because he was “ugly” that he became a “stubborn resident” in the pet store.
At that time, this guy should have been called “Chuhe”, but considering his dark appearance, I thought “Dangwu” was a more suitable name.
This guy was really a handful when he was a kitten. I both loved and hated him. Orz.
When he first got home, he had a huge appetite. It seemed like he had never eaten such delicious cat food before. He ate so quickly that he vomited, and then he ate the vomit right back up. He didn’t waste a bit.
When he was a kitten, he was like a cat litter excavator. He could dig out half of a basin of cat litter. At that time, since I had just started raising a cat, the conditions were rather simple, and I only had a fully open cat litter box. This guy could even “take off” from the cat litter, and the sand would fly around like when quarrying for stones. Then he would land on the bed with countless cat litter particles all over him.
Changing to a cat litter box with a door didn’t help either…
In desperation, I bought a CatS solid wood cat toilet for 1500 yuan.
