My Unique Silver Shaded British Shorthair: A Rollercoaster of Experiences

My Unique Silver Shaded British Shorthair: A Rollercoaster of Experiences

When I first decided to bring a cat into my life, I chose a silver shaded British Shorthair from a pet store and spent 1500 yuan on it. I initially thought that people were just joking when they said that silver shaded British Shorthairs shed a lot. However, I soon realized the truth when I found that it was almost impossible to wear black clothes without them being covered in cat hair!

When I first brought the cat home, it had issues like ringworm and ear mites. It took me several weeks to completely treat these problems. Looking back at its appearance when it was a kitten, it was really in an awkward stage. It wasn’t the most adorable sight, and the smell of the cat litter was quite strong.

Now, my male cat is two years old and weighs eight pounds and four ounces. It has already been neutered. People often say that neutered cats tend to gain weight, but my cat’s weight just doesn’t increase, and it also doesn’t develop prominent cheeks. I thought that maybe the food I was giving it wasn’t good enough, so I started feeding it a can of wet food every day and let it eat dry cat food freely. I even tried different high – quality cat foods like Acana, Orijen, and Go! and Red Fortress, but it still refused to gain weight. This led me to stay up late at night, browsing Zhihu to see if it was normal for a cat not to gain weight.

Oh, I almost forgot to get back to the main point. People often say that British Shorthairs are easy to raise, but in my case, it’s not entirely true (I was kidding earlier). Most British Shorthairs are quite lazy, but my cat has a high level of activity. Currently, I’m keeping it at my hometown. I leave the door open every day, allowing it to go out and roam around on its own. When it’s time to eat or use the litter box, it will come back home by itself.

It really depends on the cat’s personality. If you’re worried about the cat being too noisy, I would recommend getting a Persian cat. The personality of Persian cats is truly stable. They are more laid – back and less likely to cause a ruckus.

I also want to give another reminder. During the changing of seasons, the amount of hair my cat sheds is truly terrifying. I’m not exaggerating! It’s like snow falling in June, with cat hair flying everywhere. It requires a lot of effort to keep the house clean during these times. I have to vacuum regularly and use lint rollers to remove the hair from clothes and furniture.

Despite all these challenges, my silver shaded British Shorthair has brought me a lot of joy. Its unique personality, whether it’s its high energy level or its picky eating habits, has made it a special part of my life. Every day with it is full of surprises. I’ve learned a great deal about cat care through this experience, from dealing with health issues to understanding its dietary preferences. I look forward to continuing to accompany it in the future and seeing how it grows and changes.
