My dear cat, Xitang, is a charming little girl who was just over two months old when she came into my life. When I first brought her home, she immediately claimed the treadmill as her own territory. She was so timid that she only dared to move around on the treadmill. At that time, I placed a cushion on the treadmill, and it soon became her cozy sleeping spot.
Xitang, named with the hope of bringing sweetness to life, has a great love for sleep. However, on the first night after arriving home, when I turned off the lights to go to bed, I heard her meowing pitifully. I realized that she was afraid to sleep alone because in her previous home, she had always slept cuddled up with a big male cat. From then on, she became a regular on my bed. Even when she woke up early, she would quietly lie beside my pillow without making a sound.
As the days passed, Xitang grew more confident. She learned to jump onto the sofa, and every new skill she acquired was a sign of her growth. Sometimes, when she yawned widely, she looked so cute that it seemed as if she was playfully threatening to “eat the kids.”

I have been documenting Xitang’s growth through regular updates. On October 31st, November 8th, and July 1st, 2020, I shared new photos and stories of her. She was so sleepy at times that she could even fall asleep while standing. There was a period when another little cat came to stay temporarily, and Xitang clearly felt a sense of crisis. She would look at me with a pitiful expression, as if asking, “Am I still your little cutie?” She rarely showed such a coquettish side, but during that time, she did her best to win my attention.
When my parents came to help me clean the house, Xitang seemed to be pleading, “Take me with you.” There were also rare moments of harmony between Xitang and the visiting little cat. As the New Year arrived, I took pictures of Xitang to wish everyone prosperity. In one photo, she looked so curious, as if she was thinking, “Let me see who this silly person is.”
Xitang was overjoyed when she got a new nest. She would happily nestle in it, feeling extremely comfortable. Sometimes, she would only deign to sleep on my bed as a special favor to me. Having a cat like Xitang who is so photogenic is a joy. However, there were also times when she seemed to regret being photographed, as if she wanted to take back her previous cooperation.
On the first day of moving to a new home, Xitang was like a little child full of confusion, with a look of wonder on her face. I also inserted a photo of Tao Zong, Xitang’s never – met “limited – edition boyfriend.”
The days leading up to Xitang’s spaying were filled with a mix of emotions. The day before the operation, she seemed a bit subdued. On the way to the vet for the spaying, she was nervous. But even on the first day after the spaying, despite the pain, she still tried her best to jump onto the bed. Of course, I spoiled her by feeding her canned food right to her mouth.
Later, a new little cat named Wuhua joined our family. After being spayed, Xitang became even more attached to the bed and would sleep there every day. The day I removed her Elizabethan collar, she was so happy. After the spaying, she developed a new sleeping posture that was both funny and endearing. Sometimes, she would look at me from a certain angle, giving me the feeling of a “class teacher’s perspective.” And then, there were two new little kittens in our home, bringing even more life and laughter.
Xitang has brought so much love, joy, and warmth to my life. Each stage of her growth is a precious memory, and I am looking forward to many more wonderful times with her in the future.
